had a major issue getting my wetsuit off my ankles and over the high-profile timing chip. this T1 was about 20sec slower than last year and it may have all been due to the wetsuit issue

pushed this HARD, trying to keep above 19mph!

Played leap frog several times with one woman, finally finished ahead of her. She was pretty wild, shouting out greetings and encouragement to everyone and to me each time we passed one-another.

Comments:

not as fast as last year; I think maybe it suffered some from the fast bike pace.

before the race I had looked over last year's results and saw that a woman (Ada) who aged into my AG finished about a minute behind me, and could have beaten my time if her T1 wasn't over 3 minutes. Of the repeat racers, I knew she was going to be my toughest competition. On the run I heard several runners going the other way shouting out to Ada, but I didn't know how far behind me she was, so I was really glad to hit the turn-around and get a look at the gap, maybe 10 seconds? Turned it up from there in and she never threatened.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.
