The places that are really cold will see zero effect. We are used to adapting.

its hit us hard in the DC area.  Roads are still pretty impassable for biking, and running today there were huge spots of ice where snow had melted then frozen.  I think we will be in this pattern for two weeks till all the snow is gone.  All the trails are still heavily snow covered, now icy footsteps I wouldn't run on, and sidewalks aren't cleared.  Pools were also closed for two days.

First world problems I know!  Thank god for trainers and the Olympics!

I have busted my tail working out indoors this year...Right now, I probably feel the strongest I've ever felt...

Since B2B in October, I have ridden outside zero times...

Once it gets warmer, I'll probably still ride indoors during the week and outside on the weekend...bang for the buck, indoor training is way more effective (for me).

I think it will definitely affect early season races overall. The fastest competitors will probably lose the least but the majority of people will not be as good overall. I know I'm not where I have been the last 2 years in terms of overall fitness. My swim is better but my run and bike just aren't the same without being outside.

Fixed it for you.

You don't lose anything in the off-season by weather. You lose fitness, strength, etc by not training. It doesn't matter if it is done inside, outside, in rain, cold, ice, etc.

I will also argue that the bike trainer is a far better training tool the open road.

If you assume your main competition is training like you did last winter, that should be motivation for you to train even harder this winter. I'm using a bike trainer for the first time this winter and really enjoying it (mainly because of my mentor group which is awesome!). I'm hoping to "sneak up" on some of my competition this year

But yeah, some folks that don't like to workout indoors will be behind a little this season but I'm assuming the opposite :P

Chance favors the prepared ......

I'm worried about the ice melting in time. Last time I checked the report for cover on the lake I like to OWS practice at there was 21'' of Ice and 11'' of snow lol

It is Snowmageddon.
