What has helped you stay healthy for Ironman? I really try to stick to the 10% rule, get proper rest and lift, but I'm curious is anything else can help me out this season.

The most important thing one can do is to listen to your body.  If you need a break, take a break.  If you're feeling injured or sick, rest and recover until you don't.

Too many triathletes train themselves into a brick wall by following their training plan over following their body.  That's my long way of saying to not train like a dumba$$.

Foam roller, massage stick, and yoga help for me. The older I get, the more I have to do the extra things to keep my body happy.

in addition to listening to your body...

- eat good, stay away from foods that will drag you down
- avoid sick people, sounds crazy but people don't care about your race, they'll sneeze on you, cough on you...
- spend time planning to be conservative, keep the stress low
- lots of sleep

+1 to the sick people. My sister is always sick (a teacher) and she feels it's a badge of honor to see our family hours away while sick. I think it's just plan rood that we're stuck in the car with her and we all get sick a week later. Guess I forgot my gold stars to give her...

For me it's about eating enough, TRYING to get enough sleep (I'm lucky to ever get over 6 hours, even when I'm exhausted), knowing good pain from bad pain and having the mental toughness to stop mid workout if things aren't feeling right, and of course watching IM videos on youtube to keep me motivated during a year of long never ending workouts.

Recovery boots. The cheaper revitapump ones are industrial quality and cost less than a third of the top two advertised brands. After tough workouts or as an extra massage at night.
