So, I'm headed in Laurel, MS in next week (March 1) to run my first ultra.  I am signed up for the 50k.  They also offer a 50 mile, but I'm not ready for that challenge (yet).  Anybody on here raced this course.

I'm going with a friend who ran it last year.  My only goal is to complete.  Of course I have time goals, but with the training limitations of weather and health, completion is the realistic goal.  I also aim to enjoy the trail.  Supposed to be relatively flat with several water crossings.

I haven't done it, but have tons of friends who have and who are going this year. It's an excellent race, I've never heard anythign about it. Very popular down here as there aren't many ultras in this neck of the woods (that's changing, thankfully).

No real advice, you seem to have the right mindset. Run comfortably, if it's warm don't push it. Walk early and often if you need to. EAT. Stay on top of hydration and electrolytes, especially if it's warm.

Good luck!

I completed the 50k race at this years Mississippi 50 trail run.  The course is beautiful.  Lots of mud and water.  First loop was great, second loop the it band started giving me fits.  I finished really slow (7:34), but on a high from completing my first ultra distance trail race.

I have to say this course made me not want to do another urban road race ever again.

Congrats! The trails are addicting. Ultrasignup is your friend

Don't worry about your time! You did great! They don't correlate to road marathons and the conditions weren't ideal. Like road races, you learn and get better the more you do.

Already found Ultrasignup  .

Started looking at some of the closer races and the local ultrarunner group.  I'm thinking I need one of those 50 mile belt buckles.

There is something about running through the woods that made me feel like a kid again.
