Garmin is replacing Ant Agent with Garmin Express.  This is from the Garmin website:

Garmin Express

Our new, improved software is ready for almost everyone to use now. It installs on your computer and smoothly moves information between your device and Garmin Connect, replacing ANT Agent, Garmin Communicator Plugin and Garmin Express Fit. It even updates your device software! Get it now.
(Forerunner 305, 405 and 410 users, please hang tight while we get Garmin Express ready for you.)

I tried switching from Ant Agent to Garmin Express, but I can't upload to BT is I use Garmin Express.  Switching back now.

Mike

Not yet, we have spent some time with it and have a few emails into Garmin.  Right now, to upload workouts to BT you will have to either:

1.       Uninstall Garmin Express and go back to ANT Agent and Garmin Communicator Plug-in

2.       Export the activity from Garmin Connect and then manually upload the .TCX file to BT

Yes, this past week Garmin sent us more information in what it will take to interface with their Garmin Express API, my programmer has gotten me a quote on the work on our end - it appears to be an easy enough integration.  I will most likely fill out the paperwork with Garmin this week to use their new Express API and we will get to work.

Looking for update in this. My 610 uploads no problem but my 500 is hanging up with about 90% on the progress bar for listing activities...and this happens on the Strava site also. I am exporting files and uploading files as a work around.

Do have a lot of history of saved workouts?  If you delete all but the most recent ones, it may perform a lot better and won't hang.

I hope to know this week.  I have submitted the application for this to Garmin and are awaiting their response.  Unlike the former Garmin Connect API, the Garmin Express is a pay-to-play platform and application submission is no guarantee.  I feel I have made a good case as to why Garmin and BT should continue this partnership.

Once accepted, integration should be 'easy' (knock on wood)...the specs and 'how it works' provided by Garmin should have the new service running relatively painlessly.

It might be time to put a sticky or PSA on Triathlon Talk. I made the mistake of "upgrading" to Garmin Express and am now unable to upload here or Training Peaks even after going back to AntAgent. I will figure it out at some point but for now it is a PITA

Ron, any update?  I'm holding off switching over to Garmin Express from Ant Agent unit you give the green light.  With my existing configuration upload are seamless and FAST and I don't want to lose that!

About a month out if there are no unanticipated items.  We just finished the paperwork stage.  I would stick with Communicator for now if it works fine.

I'm making sure we don't dawdle on this.  Paperwork and initial API setup involved a little back and forth and should be done next week.  After that it should be mostly in our hands for which we will be devoted to since the apps are out, or will be.

Thanks, Ron and Team for making this update a priority!   I've just upgraded to the 910XT from a long love affair with my 305, and when I added the ANT device to my computer, it wipes out the Garmin Communicator.  I've not been able to figure out how to get around it.   I've gone and downloaded the ANT Agent, Garmin Communicator, and deleted the Garmin Express.  Good news is, at least BT can see my device, bad news is - won't download a thing.  So unless someone has a suggestion that will help, I'm stuck with uploading to Garmin Connect, and then exporting my workouts to BT and other sites I use.

What a frustration -- definitely not with BT -- but with Garmin.   Spend big bucks to upgrade to their Cadillac device, and then they change the upload software forcing you to their site -- BAD WORDS.

Again, Ron, thanks!  I've been loyal to BT for nearly 10 years now, and LOVE the site.

If anyone has any other work-around suggestions -- greatly appreciated!

I'm hoping that no unanticipated problems were found and that this is coming soon.  I've been doing the export TCX boogie for a while now and I'm really looking forward to the return of a new, more streamlined upload experience :-)

A little background reading from DCRainMaker about the new Garmin API:

Interesting stuff.

That is a good read.  We are in the process of working with Garmin and are actively programming for this update.

I do agree that Garmin Express will give users a better experience in getting workouts to BT as it should eliminate ALL 'weird browser incompatibility issues' that several experience under the current way - it should be a lot more seamless and a lot less work on the part of the user.
