Comments:

This didn't go as planned at all. Started out planning to run the first 10 miles at 7 min/mi. Hit my pace spot on for that duration. However from miles 6-8.5 you run on the beach. There's a plastic "bridge" that's put down so you don't have to run through soft sand. Getting off the beach I slipped on the plastic. I was able to catch myself so I didn't fall but jerked something in my left leg. It didn't feel right after that. Miles 10-20 were supposed to be at a 6:50 pace. At mile 14 my leg was hurting pretty bad so I backed off my sub 3 goal and focused on BQ. Dropped back to a 7 min pace. Mile 19 my leg was throbbing and I new I couldn't hold it for 7 more miles. I decided to throw in the towel there. I was able to catch my fiancé who was running her first half marathon. She was hit by a car training for this run last year, and needed surgery, so this was a HUGE deal. When I caught her I took the time to walk with her for awhile. My goal was shot, but it was awesome to see her accomplish hers.
What would you do differently?:

Watch my footing a little better on the beach section.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Pulling something in my left leg and the humidity

Event comments:

The race is always really organized and this year was no exception. Shortly after finishing the storms came, but the volunteers stood out in them. There were still people on course when I left, but I heard they had to pull some people off due to bad weather. There was already lightening when I left so I think they waited until the last possible moment to pull people. My race didn't go great but I'll be doing it again next year.
