So...what's the advantage? Stiffness? I'm looking at the PI Tri Fly and the weight is the same.

The biggest advantage of CF sole shoes is that you can vary the layup to make it very stiff in one direction yet very compliant in another. To a smaller degree you can also control stiffness in certain locations to reduce the "hot spot symptom".

And yes, they tend to be lighter. Most important with tri shoes though is the fit, even more so than road shoes. Make sure you try them out before buying your first pair. Once you know which ones work well for you, buying replacement shoes online is easy.

Thickness can also be effected by the type of material. Generally CF allows the sole to be thinner (at a given stiffness) which lowers the stack height over the pedal. Lower stack height means more direct power transfer and also a less likelihood of hot spots.

Typically its not worth the extra cost.

I have carbon Specialized TriVents for Tri, standard LG road cycling shoes and carbon LG MTB shoes.
The only reason I got carbon on my Tri and MTB shoes is becasue they were on sale. I don't like the MTB shoes 'coz they don't fit great.

So, since my beloved go-to shoe brand has changed its shoe, after reading the bruhaha about the minimalist shoe, I decided to give it a try. Now I have a foot issue with my arch area.

These shoes would be good for athletes looking to upgrade from a shoe with a nylon/plastic composite sole to a good carbon composite sole.

Already a cyclist and not a bad swimmer, I figured all I had to do was build up to running a few miles and I’d be ready to go. The challenge invigorated me, and I ran out to buy new running shoes.

Both the Lake Triathlon Shoe CX210TRI and the Lake Road Shoe CX225 offer distinct advantages. I tested both shoes and found them to be extremely comfortable, good looking and durable.

Whether your bike is new, new to you, or you have not been on the bike for a long time, you really should spend some time thinking about how your bike fits you.
