Subject: Compression socks for big calves?
I would like to try compression socks but am not sure they would fit. I have to buy wide calf boots and most knee socks either don't fit me or cut off my circulation. Any advice, brand recommendations, and/or coupon codes would be appreciated.

I am training for IMFL and have a history of blood clots so would like to wear them for recovery and plane rides.

I bought what was sold as what would fit, and they were great for someone with a calf that is only 10" long.  I want something that goes from my ankle bone area to just under my knee.  The XXL size I bought wouldn't go over my calf muscle no matter what and was really short in my opinion.  I would say to go to a running shoe store and see what they actually have in stock and recommend.  I live over an hour from a  running shoe store, and the only day I have available they are not open.

I have some "ted hose" which are used to increase circulation for people in wheelchairs (specifically, my dad, who is quadriplegic, who gave me a couple of his pairs).  They are thigh high and not super attractive, but they work pretty darn good! You could try a medical supply company for those.

I thought about suggesting those also, but I was thinking ted hose was a lot thinner and less supportive than what compression socks were.  It has been a long time since I remember getting ted hose for my father though.

I won't comment on the look of thigh high hose.  :-)

I have to buy wide calf boots etc as well - I finally found a type I can wear for racing etc - they are CEP - size V (the largest) will work for a calf up to 20" (45-50cm)

Active gear has Mojo on sale now.
Haven't tried them, but for $20 it could be worth a shot

I have large calves and I like the Addidas compression socks. I found them on Amazon which made it easy to order. I ordered the M and can pull them on and be comfortable.

I have another pair from RunningSkirts.com, but they are made for a really tall person and too tight for my likes.

Good luck!

Calf pain can have multiple causes. In your case, the most likely cause seems to be from a calf muscle strain. If you have had Achilles problems you can be predisposed to a calf injury.

I have a pain deep in my calf about five inches below the knee. A sports doctor did not feel anything wrong in the muscle, and there was no bruising. The tender spot can still be felt on massage.

Does compression clothing really work? Coach AJ was able to try out a line of compression wear by Skins during the 2008 Annual Hawaii Ironman Triathlon.
