So I entered the Kona Lottery for the first time this year. What are the chances of being picked first go round? I wanted to get started with the lottery system to build my chances over the next several years. If I get picked this year, well...

Less than 24 hrs until the results are announced...anybody have some positive karma going on and think they'll get a lottery slot this year? I'm fairly sure my karma is good, but not that good.

I'm pretty well broke so it would make sense that I get selected. Don't worry I would find the money somewhere if my name was pulled.

So, if on the off chance I get selected, do they email you with all the info?

Knowing my luck I will get selected. I am doing Whistler then Lake Tahoe. I wonder if I could do Kona 3 weeks later

There are a handful of BT'ers that have been selected through the lottery so maybe one of them will see this and give you an answer.  They will post a list of names that you can check and the info for validating your selection is on the Ironman website.  You do have to complete a WTC race I think before the end of August to validate your slot.  If it were me I would not do another race three weeks before Kona.  It is a once in a lifetime opportunity (for most) and I'd be afraid of injury or anything else that would detract from my preparations for the big day.

And my karma is rising.

I was joking with someone the other day that if I am to win one lottery in my life, I do hope its not this one. Of course, I won't turn it down either. But, I sort of do hope its not this year. Wife's car just died so had to buy a new one. Going to Kona this year would hurt in more ways than physically.

I was selected for the Hawaii State Lottery last year.  For that drawing, they held a party at Kona Bike Works and revealed the winners and posted it on their FB page (Bike Works FB page).  I got an official email from WTC about 5 days later with all the instructions on how to officially register.  The Hawaii Lottery was for residents who completed Honu...so my spot was already validated with a WTC race.

I'm doing Whistler and Mont-Tremblant three weeks from each other and I'm actually looking forward to training once and racing twice.

Now, that's not three in 2 1/2 months but look at Kona this way.  You'd be a lottery winner so you're not going to be competitive so just soak it all in and enjoy all 140.6 miles of it.

Keep putting in if you want to go. I'm Kona bound this year from a lottery spot. Third time around.

Congrats to you, makes me feel better knowing that at least one spot went to a BT'er

So far the taper is feeling good and I'm getting that itchy feeling to race. I know this will grow even stronger when I get to the island and see my friends and PBN Team members.
