Comments:

Surprising result as my training had been more in the building phase after having most of January off. My coach suggested running the race without being able to see my lap and pace data, never tried it before so let's give it a go.
Prior to the start I ran into some friends and one was shooting for the pace I had hoped to run so we decided to run together.
Felt really good through the first few miles, every time I felt the pace may be too much I just backed if off for a bit. At mile 6 I had to stop to use the bathroom, as soon as I left the porta john I took off just hoping to get the person I was pacing with back in sight. Took me a bit but found her, I hoped I didn't burn too many matches catching up.
By mile 9 I started to feel it, struggling to keep pace. We hit the aid station about a half mile later and there was a DJ, he just so happen to be playing my granddaughters favorite songs, yes songs! This gave me big boost and my second wind slowly kicked it. Mile 10 & 17 were faster but 12 was a little rough. The last mile I think was pure will, ran it at a sub 7 pace and I was fighting the whole length of the boardwalk to keep it up or go faster.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

go to the beer tent

What limited your ability to perform faster:

nothing, didn't expect this result so could not be happier

Event comments:

Overall a great race, I love doing this race each year. Just wish they had something other than that stew in the party tent

Nice race - and I'm so with you on the Irish Stew. Drank a beer, ate a cookie, and then took myself out for some nasty, greasy fast food for the ride home. Congrats!

I just ran the Boston Marathon under nine minute miles, can I run eight minute miles for my half Ironman training runs? Or should I go slower?

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09

Steady is our walk. Ignoring the pain that is radiating from my feet, I continue to place one foot in front of the other. Again I wonder, “Why am I doing this?”

Having three seasons under my belt I thought I knew what I was doing. That all changed with a few new challenges and a bunch of new friends.

This program should be used for an athlete whose goal is to run a marathon in the 1:30-2:30 range and has a good running base in the past 8-12 weeks.

I will assume you have not run consistently more than 6 miles and have never completed a half-marathon. I believe running your first half-marathon is a big task which requires dedication and work.

My training was taking off. I had never felt stronger. I was making bigger strides than I ever had. I was stronger and faster than I had imagined myself ever being.
