Looking forward to this race. Took 2013 off from TRIs (except for 2 relays) and am gearing for this and the Vineman 70.3. Haven't done an OWS or put my wetsuit on since the '12 mountain man OLY. Guess I should get out to the lake at some point soon.

I'm in.  I haven't done many local races the past few years, but I'm staying a little closer to home this season.

Thought about the Oly but didn't want to risk a bike incident a week out from Boston, however, just landed a gig batting cleanup for an Oly relay team so I'll be out there. I need to go scout the run course and find out where it heads through Papago at.

haven't been able to get out to the lake, but I am going to do the OWS this Sunday in Tempe Town Lake,

finally put my wetsuits on after giving them a good soak. a little snug. I may have to get into the pool with them just to help them expand.

current lake temp: 69 degrees. current lake taste: still tastes like crap

I'll be there! Just registered the other night before the fee went up!

Someone asked me about the bike course and I laughed...same old Tempe loop! I did Leadman (4 laps) last year so am looking forward to only doing 2 laps for the OLY. Wish they still had the HIM course though...that was fun!

I can't do the OWS this weekend, but will be at the Splash n Dash next Thurs...I should probably get the wetsuit out of the box at some point :-).
Just a little frightening since I haven't tried it on since I bought it!

Hey Tom and Brian, it's good to see that you guys will be doing Marquee also. I'm just getting back into triathlons after a long recovery from hamstring injury, and will be doing Marquee, Boise, what used to be Nathan's (have no clue what they've named it now) and SOMA. Looking forward to seeing you guys. We need to do a BT/ESCKTC reunion soon!

Should be interesting with the increased temps this week...hope I don't fry in my full sleeve wetsuit - eek!

That being said, was talking to a few folks and anyone know the condition of the water??? Hearing about the dead fish, bacteria in the water etc etc. Not like TTL is EVER pleasant to swim in, but not looking forward to the swim if it is worse.

I figure with Nationals and OWS taking place last weekend...it should be ok...right?

Guess I'll find out at the Splash n Dash Thurs!

Hooray! Kim's back!As far as the water, I did the OWS this past weekend. Felt a lot warmer than the 65 degrees they said it was. Saw 1 dead fish along the dock and the smell wasn't great in parts, but the water was fine. I did swallow a little, and frankly, it has tasted worse to me. I swam in a full sleeve, but may go to sleeveless or even without. I'd be curious as to the temp of the lake at the splash and dash on Thursday. Please let us know.

Did the Splash and Dash tonight. Went well, really debated about wearing my full sleeve wetsuit since the temp monitor said the lake was 77 degrees. BUT, other than being a little warm once it was on, I was glad I had it. The lake seemed fine and a good temp, typical warm and cold spots but I didn't overheat.
I didn't notice any fishy smell or an extra gross taste (more than normal), so hopefully the carp problem has had time to work itself out!
Going to take an extra hot shower though and already washed my clothes and rinsed my wetsuit!

Now if only I could stop gasping for air in the first 400m, that would be nice!

See everyone down there Sunday!!

I see Alan Webb was at the S&D as well. Guessing he may drop in for Marquee also.

I'll admit to not knowing who Alan Webb was, so I looked it up and had a chuckle...

From Wikipedia "Alan Webb (born January 13, 1983, in Ann Arbor, Michigan) is a former American athlete. He holds the American national record in the mile, with a time of 3:46.91 (min:sec). Webb represented the United States at the 2004 Summer Olympics in the men's 1500-meter race. He competed professionally for Nike until the end of the 2013. He retired after the 2014 Millrose Games to focus on training for the triathlon."

A former American athlete?  is he no longer an athlete? or no longer American?  just made me laugh

That's hilarious. Former "track athlete" probably would be a little more accurate. Word is he's doing the Marquee Sprint on Sunday.

Soooo...how'd everyone do?

Compared to the Tempe Tri in Sept, my bike was a little slower, but I'm blaming that on the wind today ! That and a few points where I had to slow way down due to congestion on the bike course with all 3 races.

Overall it was a great race! a little warm towards the end and of course I'm sunburnt! But had a good time!

I had an average swim, but happy with my bike. I guess I didn't realize we were going 28, I was expecting to do 24.8. The extra 3+ miles just threw me off a little. I thought I had a good run except for my mile 5 split. It was getting hot out there and glad I took a water bottle with me on the run. Must've been real tough on the Leadman folks. Wind on the bike? Really only seemed to hit me when I was headed south. I really didn't like the Rural Bridge segment - you started to go downhill on the far side, but had to slow to make that 180degree turn. Seemed unnecessary to include that part.

No complaints here, pretty satisfied. According to timing I went 37:57 on my 10k (only ran for relay) which is a bit odd as I had high 36s on my watch but it seems tons of timing issues. Regardless, for the heat and just now rolling into taper I'm super satisfied. Our team, Whale Oil Beef Hooked, managed 3rd Male Relay.

Congrats everyone!

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).
