Anyone else heading to Knoxville for this race? How's the training? I'm starting to get excited for this one.

Yeah, I wasn't there last year. The weather concerns me. It could be super hot and humid…..or freezing with rain. Fingers crossed it's a beautiful 65 degree day

I'll be there for the AG group series, which is a weird distance between Olympic and Half. I'm really looking forward to it. I did the Olympic last year and loved the race, with a couple caveats. I had a rough beginning to the swim because the water was so cold! You can't really get in to practice swim, so it's just a matter of getting in and swimming. Then, on the bike, I was colder than I've ever been. It was just so cold and rainy. That being said, I liked the race, the town, and the course. I've got my fingers crossed for good weather!

I'm doing the half. Last year was miserable and it was my first half iron race. Swim and run training is going well so far. I'm behind on the bike but hopefully the warmer weather will help. The half bike course was pretty challenging for me.

bike course is fun but last year you could not kill on the down hills for fear of crashing in the rain. going across the flooded bridges on the run was my favorite part. I woke up that morning and decided that today was just going to be a race I Finished and not end up injured

the upstream swim was harder than people said (might have been because of the rain)

I plan to be there for the AG Championships myself and looking forward to it! Hopefully not rainy/cold like others have posted from last year. Training's been going well though I do need to start getting into more specific tri training (i.e. bricks). Hopefully Rev 3 posts the AG Ch courses soon, especially the bike. Like to see what differences there are from the Half and Olympic. Hope everyone's training continues to progress along!

I'm really hopeful I'll be able to take my bike out on the roads before the race. It's still snowing up here in Cleveland, and lots of cold weather and rain in the future. It snowed toward the end of April here last year. Sucks. I really need 1-2 rides outside.

Did you feel the bike course was super challenging (for those whom have done this)? I did IMMT last August, and it was pretty hilly. I live in a flat area so no real practice on hills, and I was fine at MT. Looking at bike profile, I feel intimidated.

That was my approach last year as well. Just finish it safely. The river was moving quite a bit faster than normal with all the rain, so that's why the upstream was harder. I handled it better this time, but was a much better swimmer than from a few years ago. For the Oly at least, swim times were well ahead of usual as the downstream current provided a tremendous assist. Times across the boards were several minutes faster than normal. Cam Dye put up a near Sun Yang level 1500 time.

And for someone who asked, I haven't done IMMT, but would think it should be ok here if that one went fine. Not that this will be a walk in the park, but wouldn't expect a substantial difference in difficulty even though it may not be the same. I'm in flat ground as well and haven't had trouble either time, but the bike is also my strength. Have a good range of gears and mind your effort level.

It's supposed to be 75 here tomorrow, so I finally get to head outside with my bike. Woohoo! 3 more intense weeks of training for me and things will start winding down as we approach race day.

How long is the swim from the transition area? I was looking at times from last year and T1 was long for everyone.

T1 is across the street and up a hill into the bottom deck of a parking garage. It is not a hideously long run. Last year the air temp was in the mid 50's and raining, so folks were putting on jackets and arm warmers and extra gear in general. That was why the times were so high. I hope it is typical weather this year!
