Swim
What would you do differently?: preparation for next race - include some speed work - try to get down to ~1min 100/s - although there is an advantage to taking it a bit easy on the swim to save breath for the bike Transition 1
Comments: I was much more disorganized than in practice. perhaps placement of everything on the ground? - perhaps just the excitement of the race. and I was more out of breath than in practice DUH! What would you do differently?: 1. practice 2. no shorts - just ride in suit, 3 an easier shirt. 4 hang towel and shirt on bike. Next time bike shoes Bike
Comments: rode my mountian bike - I've got to get a more appropriate bike. Looks like I have an old Cannondale lined up to begin my next phase of training on. I was overall the slowest bike. - unbelievable. I did have some trouble finding a pace. And mostly I rode in the highest two to three gears - probably not optimal - I've got to learn more about biking What would you do differently?: better bike, learn to ride. If I can get a little better I'll join the local Wed afternoon bike group. Transition 2
Comments: I biked in my running shoes - transition was relatively fast for me. I did fumble with the running belt before starting. What would you do differently?: Next time I'll have to change shoes - need a better jersey Run
Comments: I was pleased to hit about a 10 min/mile pace. I hadn't run for almost three weeks due to a sore knee. Letting it heal - with lots of glucosomine and no running seemed to do the trick. No pain in the run. What would you do differently?: Build up the training a bit more methodically with some speed work as well as endurance. My plan was to walk out of T2, and walk several short segments in the early stages to avoid hurting my knee more, and it worked well. With more training I should be able to hit it harder. Post race
Warm down: Rested ~3min - walked ~.3mi to transition picked up bike and walked back to finish area. After awards, easy bike 2mi home What limited your ability to perform faster: Speed training. especially on bike. injured knee had me hold back to avoid reinjuring it. Mountain bike. Event comments: This was my first race, and it was well organized. Lots and lots of voluteers, and the trafic control was superb. I've been to lots of other sporting events, and this one showed super orginization and execution. I had a ball, felt safe and welcome. All the bikers passing me were very encouraging - 'twas nice (even though slow) Last updated: 2006-08-07 12:00 AM

Bike very easy warm up 2 miles to the event. Stand around for an hour - next time I'll warm up in the water if it's allowed.
