My name is Corey and I am from Phoenix, Arizona; born and raised. I have been an athlete all of my life and have done everything from racquetball, baseball, golf, jiu jitsu, and so on. The list is very long, and I have just decided to start training for triathlons. Woohoo! I start this journey at 27 years old and at 5'7" and 127ish lbs., I am not a large man to say the least. I am past the point of trying to get "big in the gym"
(as I can never get over 135lbs
) and am now on the path to become an elite athlete.
I make this commitment even though I work two full time jobs
(yes 80 hours a week
) in order to provide for my family while my wife goes through med school, as I await the opportunity to start with the Mesa Police Department this coming summer, and as my wife and I begin to expand our family. We obviously like it rough
.
It is actually because of this hectic schedule that I have come to find a new passion in athletics that is triathlon. It is the time when I am outdoors running, biking, or doing anything when I am the most content, and even more-so when my day has finished. With what little free time I had I could say "yeah I did that today". I have never competed in any of the tri sport races so I plan on starting slowly and working my way up. This is also somewhat of a necessity since my schedule does not allow me to have a strict training regimen currently.
Here are some of my major goal lines over the next few years:
2014 - 10k - May
(currently training
), Half marathon - November
2015 - First Sprint tri - ~March, Marathon - ~August , Olympic tri - ~ November
2016 - Half Iron Distance - ~March , Tour De Tucson
(107m bike
) - Nov
2017 - IronMan
And all in between will obviously be training and a variety of tri and other competitions that I will also be completing to fill in the gaps. Like I said these are just a few major goal lines I have and in my current state I think they are reasonably spaced. I am sure a few things will move around as time goes on. Some people may think these are spread out and that I could do them earlier than when I have allocated them to be, and that is probably so. However, when I sign up for a competition I will will not be signing up with the intent to merely finish. I will be signing up with the intent to perform and compete. I don't expect to be a top tier athlete immediately, if ever. But I have a competitive nature and I look forward to putting it to use
Thanks for taking the time to read a little bit about me and my goals. I look forward to making new friends and learning A LOT during my time here. I'll see you around!
