Hey BT Community, my name's Miguel and I got into triathlon last year with no swim training, a heavy mountain bike, and a few thousand miles on the road running (seasoned runner).

I did 3 tri's and a duathlon (run, swim, run) last year; the last two with a Giant Defy road bike and barely any swim training after getting hooked from the first tri. My first tri was Escape where I side stroked the entire .5 miles.

I have now planned my year with the following (2014):

Escape from Ft. Desoto - St. Petersburg - Sprint (.5 mi swim, 10 mi bike, 3.4 mi run) - April
St. Anthony - Tampa - Olympic - April
Top Gun - Tampa - Sprint - July
maybe another sprint/olympic in August

Augusta, GA - 70.3

I'm now more motivated about triathlon that I've added a speed-fill bottle to my entry level Giant, am pricing some clip-on aero bars, have received a trainer as a gift and am using it, have purchased and swam in an Orca S5 wetsuit, and have converted to heart rate training (since Nov, 2013).

A co-worker is trying to get me to commit to a full Iron for 2015 in Houston. Not sure if I'd want to do that one.

What's a great full Iron for a beginner with a beautiful course?

Hi Miguel, welcome to BT! Looks like a good schedule there!

I'd post your question about Iron races in the main triathlon talk forum, including preferences like which continent, does it have to be an Ironman-branded race, etc.
