How's that for perfect race conditions?? I know I've never had a more favorable combination of wind and temperature.

Looks like fast times all the way around...I PR'd the full course in a time that would have been good for podium any other year but only finished sixth in AG. Ah,well...one must be philosophical about such things.

Hope the other BT'ers racing had their own great days.

Great race and weather. Sad to hear about the death during the swim portion. Prayers to his family.

Seriously???

This is the first I've heard of this.  Do you have any other info?

Very sad to hear

Other than this, it was a very good day for me.  While I was a little slower on the bike than expected, and I had a terribly long T2, I had PR's for every part of the race (and obviously for total time, too).  My run even beat my standalone Half Mary PR!

And, as above, my time would have been good for an AG win last year, but I had to settle for 8th in AG this year.

For anyone else wondering about it, I found a few articles out there.  This pretty much covers it:  http://luminanews.com/2014/10/participant-dies/

A friend of my mind saw the whole thing go down. The guy put his hand up for help and the paddle boarders went over to him right away. The coast guard boat came and pulled him on the boat and did CPR for a long time with no results. There was quick reaction and effort to save him but it was not meant to be. They finally put a blanket over him after many minutes of effort by the Coast guard.

I went down to the beach the day before to scout out the course, and it was glorious...the sun was out, the sea was as smooth as glass, and only a hint of a breeze was blowing. “Perfect,” I thought.

As a triathlete, there is one acronym that you just can’t fathom ever having next to your name in a race report – DNF: DID NOT FINISH.
