I wondered when a race group thread would get started about B2B!

I'll be there for the seventh time - So far, it's two fulls and four halves. It'll be the half again this year, alas. One of my knees has gone into full revolt and won't let me get anything like irondistance mileage in training.

I've done the race since its first year and while some aspects have changed(course tweaks/moving the finish away from the Battleship to downtown) the essence of the event is the same: Fast swim(usually)/flat ride with headwind at some point/really nice run(I think) going from downtown to an out and back around a lake. The event has a few extra moving parts because it's a point to point race but the team that stages B2B has all the details long since worked out.

Biggest conversation topic is usually the current - I haven't checked for this year but believe someone else mentioned it might be really strong. If you're looking on the NOAA website, it's the Masonboro Inlet tide chart.

Wilmington is a great town to race in/Perfect time of year/Mostly fast course - what's to not like? Let's play two.

Good luck to all with your training.

raced it last year and if it was more than a month after IM Chatt, I'd probably look at doing it again, but I just don't think I can - did the Half last year and loved every painful minute of it - its totally a race I recommend to people for either first half or full, if they want a non branded race

not an expert on currents and tides but it seems like the tides will be
extremely favorable this year.

Planning to do this race this year. Going to be doing my first half. It will be interesting as I am currently deployed and will be back stateside for 4-8 weeks before the race. I will easily get my bike and run in here but focusing on dryland swim training for strength and endurance. Will dedicate the time I am stateside to the swim and maintaining my bike and run.

I am looking forward to the new challenge.

Good luck with your training! The incoming tide(I still haven't checked the chart to see how strong the flow will be but assume we'll get at least a little something) can make up for some swim training deficiency in case you're worried about not getting enough water time before race day. I predict you're gonna have a great day!

The full never sold out till last year. It was around early Sep. The Half usually sells out every year anywhere from July to Sep.

Did the Full last year, I'm in for the Half this year (didn't want to go really long this year - all short course except for this).

Training is already in full swing!

Did anyone notice they changed to Cliff products for course supplies- gels, etc.?

Up until now it was Heed and with all due respect to that company, I never could get used to the taste.

Yeah, I saw that email yesterday morning.  I kinda wish they had changed to PowerBar products as that is what I train with now, but Clif should be good.

I'll probably switch my nutrition in training over to Clif in (August after my other big races) so that I have time to get used to their stuff.

The Heed never bothered me, but I also raced with Perpetuem (and sometimes Heed) all of last year.

Anyone signing up for this as their first IM distance? I have my first 70.3 next weekend so I'm going to see how that goes but have been thinking about signing up for this as my first IM! If so are you using the BT IM training? or other plans?

Not first, but my third and I've "followed" the BT Intermediate IM training plan for both of my other IM races. I say "followed" in a pretty loose sense...the BT plan is what my "planned workout" was for each day.  If training were a family tree, my actual training was the ragged cousin with fuzzy teeth.  All joking aside, I loosely followed the Intermediate plan, probably doing 85-90% of the training and it prepared me for the race.  I moved workouts around, missed some (sorry...the plan didn't realize that the long run on week 15 is Mother's day...no way I'm leaving for 2.5 hours plus a nap...) and modified some.

I am all in for the Full, it will be my first. I did the Half in Augusta last year. Plan to use the BT, beginner 20 week plan just havent decied if the RPE is ok or if I should do the HR one. I guess it will depend on what level of membership I get.

One of my knees is giving me a good bit of trouble and I can't run at all right now. Good news is I've used the free time to bike more. I'm anticipating a float/hammer/trot-walk kind of day at B2B.

Best of luck to all with this phase of the build...always better to work out the ouchies in June than in October.

The first step is to admit you have a problem...  At least you can plan to hammer the bike.

My plan started last week and I did about half the volume.  Should be close to full volume this week.

My bike tires hold air!
Swimming is going pretty well (thanks to the Master's coach I've been working with all year).
Runs have been ugly since I took more time off to avoid jostling after surgery.

Been going at it since late February.  Training has gotten jostled a bit lately due to scheduled races that involved traveling, but I'm back in the saddle now.

I'd say that I'm currently in decent half iron shape (already doing 3200yd swims, 3.5 hour trainer rides, and 1:30:00 transition runs), and that the next few months will be all about improving fitness.

12 weeks from tomorrow, folks!

How is everyone doing?  In gear, getting in gear, getting ready to get started??

Does anyone have any "concrete" info on the tides for this year?  As in, are the rumors of a crazy fast swim (especially for the Half) true?

17 spots left for the half...I only just registered on Wednesday but there were still ~150 spots then. Big surge this week!

Saw them post about 2 hours ago that they were down to 1 spot remaining for the Half.

I'd bet that it is probably gone by now.

Here's the NOAA chart for race day: http://tides.mobilegeographics.com/locations/3631.html?y=2014&m...

So, I'm no expert, but that looks pretty significant for the Full peeps!

It looks like us Half folks with an 8:30am start (for just the first wave, and as late as 9:25 for the last wave) will only be catching the tail end of the incoming tide, however...  some of the later waves might actually be at slack tide, then?

In any case, it's a much larger tide than last year - 4.59 feet vs 3.98 feet.  Six inches higher is a lot of water that has to flow in.
