Subject: RE: Yo! **UPDATE**
1st Triathlon in the books! I was equal parts anxious and excited on Sunday morning for the Kansas City Triathlon.
SWIM: The water wasn't too bad (reported at 64 degrees ), however my form went completely out the window. We had 26 guys in my wave. I went from breathing every 5 strokes to every 2, and occasionally doing a scissor kick while looking forward to make sure I was headed in the right direction! I also stood up too soon and ended up wading through thigh-high water for the last 50 feet or so. That was a horrible idea as it really ate up some leg-energy. I'm sure more open-water training is in my future.
T1: Went pretty smooth. Fairly good jog up the beach to my bike. I didn't wear a wetsuit so didn't have to worry about that. I took my time to make sure I had all the sand off and barely avoided a guy wiping out in front of me while he mounted his bike.
BIKE: I was SLOW. That said, I got lots of "YEAH FLAT-BAR!" cheers, which was nice. When I get some more $ I will spring for a newer bike, as the hybrid just simply couldn't keep up. I trained on a lot of hills and was able to pass a few bikers going up, but when we were going down hills or on flat land, it felt like I wasn't even moving as they flew by.
T2: Good transition. No hiccups.
RUN: Felt a little heavy for the first mile or so, but my legs started working for me and was able to fall into a comfortable pace. This is where I made up most of my ground and was able to pass a few athletes.
I had a "public" goal of just finishing, and "private" goal of finishing in 1:30. Proud to say I crossed the finish line in 1:22:30. Great race, lots of fun, and excited for my next one!
