Just completed Texas 70.3 today and have the Garmin files, photos, finisher pic/video and gear to prove it. I've also gone back to look through photos my family took at the race and the chip is with me throughout. Unfortunately my time on the website reads 0:00:00 without a single split.

Anyone had any of these kinds of issues before? I'm sure it can't be the first time this has happened at one of their races. Not that I was competing for a podium spot or anything, but I'm pretty damn proud of today's PR.

Advice?

E-mail the race director and see what they can do. Someone should have been manually tracking you as well hopefully. In one of my tris, my chip stayed with my wetsuit while I was on the bike. I noticed it a few miles into the bike that I was missing it. They had the thing fixed before the event was over. They at least knew the time I left for the run and they had a manual tracker for everyone too.

You are right you are showing as if you have not even started at all, seems to be a faulty timing chip. I would contact the RD ASAP and the RD should be embarassed for an error to happen on a WTC event.

goodluck!!!

I looked at results yesterday and no one had times and all were listed as DNS. Clearly they will need ot work this out as it wasn't an isolated incident.

Last year at a 5150 event, my chip did not work. I had it during the whole race.
The company that does the timing for tWTC events (sportstats) was VERY helpful at reconstructing my event.

They took my Garmin data and asked me some questions about other people I knew on the course and where they were relative to me. From this they could tell my data made sense. They then corrected the results.

There was an official that was manually timing and noting finish time/bib number. This matched with my Garmin.

I am not sure they could have done that for a Kona spot.

I did notice that I was not "beeping" as I went over various timing mats.

I also remember that while we were correcting the numbers (in the big van with all the equipment), a timing official would come in pretty regularly with a bib number that did not beep (register) when an athlete crossed the finish line.

One major difference between this and most 70.3 events : when you pick up your timing chip at 70.3 events, they usually "check" the chip before you leave the tent. They had not done this at my 5150 event.

Also check the sportstats.ca page. I find it more reliable than the WTC site

Did you get a penalty? I went through that last year at Eagleman, they DQ'd me because they said I didn't serve my time in Penalty Tent. Had the mark of shame to prove it, along with other evidence, so it got fixed.

But my times were wiped from the results initially. The timing folks get a DQ list from the head ref, and don't ask questions, just zero out people.

It seemed to be systemic, a bunch of us went through the same thing. Like paperwork got lost at the penalty tent.

Thanks for the help, everyone. What is the best way to go about getting in touch with the race director?

I've been on the website and see a variety of email addresses for ironman, but none specifically for Greg Pennington (who I believe is the RD). I did go ahead and send a message to [email protected].

TCJ- I am 99.999% sure I did not receive a penalty. I have never received a penalty in a race before so I am not positive how the procedure is done other than the yellow and red cards, but don't the officials make it obvious to the racer if they receive one?

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.
