Getting quite excited for this race.

It will be my first race of the tri season for the year, and can't wait!

Anyone else heading to it?

I just registered for it yesterday. After NOLA 70.3 I was going to take it easy for a while, but I have lots of friends doing this one, so I caved.

I hope it's warmer than last year!

Gonna sign up today. Hopefully there's some water in the lake for the swim!

I'm doing an OWS in that lake on Saturday, although on the opposite side as the X-50. But I can report back on water levels and temps. I heard water temps were a chilly 63 degrees, but a week of 85+ degree days should warm that up a bit.

I've been out swimming in lake grapevine (probably 30 minutes south for those not from around the area) for the past month now... water temps aren't half bad.

You got your wish on the temps! My bike thermostat said 86 degrees when I picked it up right after the finish! Good news was that dewpoint was no more than 40.

Drought is going to be tough on some of these open water swims this season. About 100 yards out the water was about 8 inches deep- stood up and promptly cut my foot on a rock.

A lot more traffic on the roads than I have ever experienced in any event. Had to be careful passing to make sure a car was not trying to do the same headed the other way.

Fun event though.

It did seem there was a lot more car traffic this year than last. The good thing is there's a wide shoulder, and actually smoother roads on the shoulder. But I did see a few close calls.

And yes, the local lake levels are getting quite depressing.

There was way more traffic with aggressive drivers on the road than I have had at any race.

The sand bar.. that was not fun, also the beating I took when  guy swam over me with his closed fist. I ended up with a bump on my head from him....

The run was hot, but the volunteers were amazing and the ice was the best thing ever.

I might or might not do this race again, but it did convince me that I do not want to do the disco x-50 at the same location in warmer weather.

1 more thing, it bothered me that they let people in the transition that were not athletes. I saw they were checking bikes and numbers on the way out, but family in transition was a bit annoying.
