Event warmup:

Got in the water to acclimate to the 65 degree temperature. Didn't feel that cold at all. Did a few strokes and floated, just relaxing and getting used to the wetsuit again.

Comments:

Great mental day of training. It had been since Aug '12 since I had been in open water (mountain man OLY, where my suit was choking me and I peeled it halfway off during the swim). Goal was not about speed, but just getting re acclimated to the open water environment and swimming in my wetsuit again, no issues at all. Everything was great.
What would you do differently?:

Probably swim a little harder. My first lap was so so, but I got into a rhythm. During the back half of the first lap and cruised on my second. Too bad I didn't have a lap split. I would have been curious to see the difference between 1 and 2.
Post race
Warm down:

Waited around for a few more folks from ONE Multisport, then loaded up my wetsuit and headed out for a 5 mile run around the lake.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Effort? I could have swum faster, but was just doing this event as a race prep.

Event comments:

Good OWS warm up event for triathlon season.

I learned in this race that in order to finish the swim, you have to know where you are going. And in order to know where you are going, you have to learn to sight.

Stroke after stroke, my pace was pulling me out into the middle of the lake quickly. The cover seemed to be getting thicker. But still in the distance, the little boathouse was my lighthouse.

The swim is ALWAYS a cause for concern when it comes to competing in a triathlon. This is the event for which you need to concentrate on RELAXING.
