See I always looked at it from another view. Why are the sprint and oly distances screwed up. I mean you start with the Full distance then go to a Half (which is still truly half of the full. But Oly is not 1/4 of a full(half of a half). And a sprint is not 1/8 of the full.

Full/Half/Oly/Sprint
4000/2000/1000(usually 1500)/500
112/56/28(most are 24)/14(most are ~12)
26.2/13.1/6.5m(usually 10k, it's close)/3.2m(5k)

Clearly the run is as proportionate to the full.

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.
