My MIL has a yard full of daffodils and every year I take my kids out there for a some pics. This is always short notice, have to go when the weather cooperates, kids are free and flowers are blooming so it is nearly impossible to hire a professional. Just looking for some simple tips to make the most of these photos.  Here are a few pics from previous years to see what we're working with. It looks like Saturday will be photo day this year - weather is supposed to be 73 and P cloudy.

Get the sun behind you (the photographer).....your first two pics are examples of how the sun produces a glare or unnatural light.  Try to get your outside pics done in the first or last couple of hours of daylight....evening is preferable.  I hunted for years with an ESPN Outdoors photographer.....he called those times "the golden hours" for outdoor photography.

I have now used up all of my "expertise" in photography.

Great looking kids!

Quick edit. A little time and full res file and all of these could be improved even more. LB gave some good tips, make the original good and then edit a bit in PS to make them great!

Try turning on the flash. This will bring up the contrast and add a bit of sparkle to the eyes.
Get down to there level so that you're not shooting down on them.
Back up a bit and then zoom in. This will help compress the background and make the flowers look more plentiful.
As LB said, change you angle so that the sun is not hitting the lens directly or use a piece of cardboard to shade the lens. (just make sure it's not in the photo)

Good luck.

Well I got lucky this year and my SIL took the pics for us. She has a much nicer camera than I have and it really shows! We still didn't get the time of day right - this was 1:30 in the afternoon. And the weather was a little crazy with 35 mph wind gusts but the flowers were so pretty this year! And the kids are o.k. too .

That first picture is SOOOO excellent!!  Your kids look fantastic!  The effect of the bare trees and the colors of the flowers, along with the color pop of the flowers in your daughter's hair and your son's red hair is REALLY cool.  Nice work!
