Showed up at the LBS Wednesday night ride, and couldn't believe who was there. There were having a diabetes charity fund-raiser that George is involved with, so he came out to help support the cause and ride with the locals. It was a little freaky, after watching him ride the TDF on the telly all these years, and suddenly he's right there. I actually got to ride on his wheel for awhile.

The guy is really a class act. Very gracious and friendly. Posing for pics with everyone. Very down to earth. Hung around and talked afterward, while we had a few beers.

I fell down, tweaked my derailier, but didn't care. Fantastic ride.

Guess I'll be back at the LBS again tomorrow. Wonder who I'll see?

That is pretty cool. Always fun when you get an experience like that.

The question is - were more people excited to ride with Jeff Gordon or Hincapie?

Speaking for myself, it was all about George. I saw this other dude, that looked like a celebrity, but not being a NASCAR fan, didn't even know who it was until we found out we were parked right next to him. He and George both stopped to talk and pose for pics. Turns out Jeff is a pretty good rider, too.

Didn't notice the vein thing. I did kinda pay attention to his pedaling cadence, posture on the bike, etc. He's very relaxed in the herd, talking n stuff, until we did a bunch sprint and then he was just... gone.

There is no way I'd ride in a group with Jeff Gordon. Crash fest anyone?

That's pretty funny, rubbin' is racin', right? You know, I didn't see any hyper-aggressive stuff like that. He was shooting the breeze with George half the time.

I saw more aggressive stuff from some fellow riders, who were maybe "inspired" by these guys being along?

Some of my friends lined up at the front with George Hincape in Little Rock Arkansas at a century this past year and said he was a class act. They were keeping up until the we hit the hills and that guy can climb like it was no big deal.

I need to work on my climbing

I own both a road bike and a tri bike. I am wondering which bike I should be riding during off season training, or does it matter?

Riding Zen means nothing more than being keenly aware of your surroundings and in control of your emotional state at all times. It also means riding safe and riding smart.
