Subject: How long should a pair of pedals last?
I received a pair of Time iClic Racer pedals for XMas 2012. In the last couple of months I have had a weird clicking sound like my crankarm was hitting my chainstay. Of course, this was not the case and I thought perhaps it was my left pedal. I took the pedal off, installed an old pair of Look ARC pedals sitting in my parts box and voila, clicking is gone. Moreover, these pedals have just huge amounts of slop in them now, like the spring (which is a wafer of carbon fiber in the iClics) has worn out. Is a year and a half an acceptable lifetime for a pair of reasonable quality pedals?

Should last MUCH longer. How worn is the clear? That could cause the issue.

If it is indeed the pedal, call Time customer service, they're usually good and will find a solution for you.

Cleats a couple of months old, it is not the cleat. I will contact Time

The first pair of inexpensive entry-level pedalsI bought lasted about two years before the bearings wore out.

The Shimano Ultegra SPD-SL pedals I replaced them with are going fine after five years now.

I'm using a seven year old Look pedal.

Bike shop mechanic suggested this is probably the last season for them.

Got a new pair sitting in a box at home just waiting to go on.

Most good pedal should be re-buildable. Take them apart, replace bearings and grease. You should not need to replace the entire pedal.

It's not the bearings, at least this is not the obvious problem. I'm just a little dubious on the carbon fiber spring. It is easy to get into, but does this mean it wears out faster.

My Shimano 105 SPD-SL pedals have almost 30k miles on them.  No issues.  I've gone through about 4 pairs of cleats though.

I just replaced my first pair of pedals bought in 2004. They were the black Shimano ones the model lower than Ultegra, before they had 105 pedals. I do have many bikes though all with pedals, so I wasn't using them all the time. So my data point is 10 years, but I have no idea of the mileage which is probably a better measure.

I wore down the plastic insert and pedal so much on my right foot, that they no longer stayed engaged with my cleat.

I have a pair of Shimano 747 pedals I bought in 1992. They still work fine.

Sent an email to Time about this. They indicated that the pedals have a 2 year warranty and that I would need to conduct any warrant repairs/replacement through the dealer I bought them from. These were a gift and I have long since lost any documentation that I had pertinent to these pedals. I told them this and asked if the retailer was my only option (ie, will they work with me directly). Ball is in their court. I have had a set of ATAC carbon pedals on my MTB for years and because these things are absolutely bombproof I am (or at least was) a huge fan of Time pedals. We'll see how this turns out but I fear not well.

I have a pair of Look Carbon Pro (Delta) pedals that I bought back in 1991 that are still going strong on my old bike on the trainer.

Road cyclists tend to have a higher cadence than triathletes. Why is this? Is it bad?
