Today was the first day of riding to work now that the endless winter is finally calming down.

Over the winter I have been on my spin bike a little but today I was shocked by how much my legs have gone away.

My work commute in the morning is only 10k but my legs really rejected my efforts. I like to mash the big cog but several times had to compromise gearing.

Might go home over the local hills just to teach my legs a lesson. How dare they let me down like this!

Hammering can help ... right up to where you hurt yourself. Try to back off before that! It might even be a good idea to give your legs a week of easier commutes before pushing too much extra. Good luck however you do it!

I am probably not going to hammer it too much as these are also my first few rides with clipless pedals. So I want to make sure I don't get any knee/hip complaints.

Just laughing at myself for how far south my legs have gone over the winter.

Yeah, it`s time to dust off my bike too. If you`re laughing, I`ll probably be rolling on the floor after I try!

Yes Funny how regardless of how much you do on the trainer over the winter those first couple of rides on real roads under real world conditions in the spring really take there toll and seem to wake up some muscles that you didn't know you had.

Probably not the muscle groups you're referring to but my sit bone area was crying yesterday after my first outdoor ride of the season Tuesday night (21 miles)...

Ok, glad that I'm not the only one. I put in some good time on the trainer this winter and went for my first outside ride the other day and was not impressed with the results.

Likewise! All that trainer work, wasted!

At least I finished 'Breaking Bad'.

I went from 2 hrs a week on the training to 200 miles over the course of a few days at training camp. Legs were fine, but my under carriage not so much.

Wanted to sit in a bucket of ice.

This is why you should all move south with me where you can ride outside year round!

Never

No serious training is ever wasted or unrewarded, its just no matter how good they are machines just can't replicate real life, it's like completely training for a marathon on a treadmill sure you can do it,( although I don't know who would ever want too ) you even will probably even be able to complete it, but I bet you will have the worst case of shin splints afterwards that you will ever experience if not a few stress fractures.

Arrgh. It makes me impatient listening to everyone else getting their bikes out. We still have over a foot of snow and another snowstorm on the way. I think people from Northern Ontario should be given a handicap in races because our outdoor bike and swim window is so short.

You all are making me very grateful for our mild Spring here. Been riding outside since mid Feb and only been rained and hailed on once. I was very very happy to put the trainer away early this year.

The legs are bad but who took all the oxygen? My heart rate is sky high and I'm sucking wind. Damn I hate the first two weeks of the season.

My left leg is significantly shorter than my right by 7mm. For the bike I got an extra shim in my cleat, so I'm wondering if orthotics would be called for in my running shoes?
