Has anyone else had this happen with a GARMIN device? I obviously did not ride 4,000 miles today on my trainer. It's happened my last 2 rides now (both indoors)

Any solutions?

Thanks,

ETA: the speed/Cadence sensor has always slipped in and out of signal sometimes (especially if I "airplay" a SUFFERFEST vid from my phone to Apple TV) that didn't happen today though.

mine does weird stuff when the battery needs to be replaced in the sensor.  have you tried that?

I put a new battery in about 2 months ago, I haven't ridden much but I suppose that's a pretty common sense / square one place to start.

4K miles and it only gave you a suffer score of 22?

Did you perchance forget to turn off the GPS Mode before starting the ride, I have seen something like this a few times when I have forgot to turn off the GPS On an indoor trainer ride, other then that I would double check the Magnet positions and probably try a repairing between the GSC10 and the 310 if you have already changed out the battery on the GSC 10.

MY GSC-10 has always been rock steady as long as the unit doesn't get moved on its mounting once everything is lined up and paired.

I had to look it up, but it seems like you biked 7 times faster than the speed of sound. Step aside, Starky! =)

No advice, but I hope you get it figured out soon -- so frustrating to have your tools break down.

My 310xt likes to pump up the elevation randomly. The other day it took a 500ft gain and turned it into a 4000+ft gain. Only on the bike for some reason.

Every once and a while I get an odd number. A few months ago I had a max speed of 145.5 mph on a run, that must been some huge downhill.

That is pretty funky. Obviously, instead of recording 0mph during the dropouts, it is recording 4,000+. I wonder if that is Strava's fault. What does it look like on Garmin connect?

Since the cadence drops out less than the speed, I'd first check that all the magnets are snug and in place.

I would guess there are 2 problems...strava software glitch, which may or may not be caused by the definite constant signal dropouts.

I had a friend who had that happen recently too. I remember because we were joking about it on strava.

4000 miles in just over an hour, and your suffer score was a 22? You sir, are a machine!

What can I say...it was just my usual Thursday stroll

Other questions:
yes, GPS was turned off
I'll have to try switching batteries and aligning the sensors
*ive never used garmin connect (I couldn't get it to sync wirelessly to my ipad directly from the 310xt (I don't own a computer))

GOOD CATCH- on my 310XT & Wahoo Fitness app it doesn't have this erroneous total so the disconnect must be somewhere between watch and strava, although the signal dropping in and out is the main culprit. ( I've never had any issues with rides that don't lose signal this way)

Now I know why I just track time on the trainer! All this tech sounds way, way too complex.

Ok,

So I've switched the batteries out, re aligned my sensors. Repaired the GSC-10 & 310XT & I'm still having the problem of STRAVA thinking I have rode thousands of miles.

My watch reads a reasonable number & so does my wahoo fitness on the iPad.

Has anyone experienced similar difficulties or have any other ideas?

I got bored Saturday afternoon, and went for a ride that turned into a half-century.

I thought I had stopped my Garmin when I got home, but apparently I just let it auto pause.

Then I put it on my desk, and went to get something to drink.  While I waited for my computer to boot up I was messing with my guitar and heard the Garmin beep for some reason.  Then beeped again.  I ignored it.

Then it beeped once more.  I looked at it and it reported a speed of 73MPH.  So I hit stop.

When I dumped it into Garmin Connect, the map that displayed my ride showed a straight line going SE from my house to the middle of nowhere, and that's where it showed my ride as finished.

I'm still not sure what happened, but I'm fairly certain I didn't ride through the woods at 70 MPH on my road bike after doing 50 miles.

Does it work OK for outside rides?

Does it track your HR accurately indoors?

if the answer to both is yes, then (IMO) there really isn't an issue since indoor speed and distance is not really relevant anyway.

Just my .02

Heart rate works fine indoors.
I'll have to wait a few days to check on the outdoor ride functionality but outdoor RUN works just fine.

I agree indoor speed/distamce doesn't equate perfectly to outdoors but it's still a metric. If I'm riding at X speed faster than my normal speed in a certain gear I know I'm pushing harder making progress etc. It's still a set of data points to judge progress.
