Did Ironman WI registration go online last year?  Or did the volunteer and line there for the public sell the event out?  I am going down to watch the event with my soon to be husband (to make sure he realizes what I am doing in 2015, but I am not sure we are going to volunteer) so I am not sure I will be able to be in the volunteer line.  I want to make sure I get a spot.

There was an online registration period which I believe did not fill until mid afternoon on Monday last year. This seems to be status quo the past couple years. You would need to get online ASAP when registration opens and go for it though, IMO. Best of luck!

I believe it did go live online, but closed around mid-day.

I was able to register online on the preceding Friday, since they had a combo-pack registration with a 70.3 (Racine or Steelhead) and IMWI. I don't know if they are going to do that this year, but even if you don't bother with the half (~$250), it still might be worth the cost to get the slot without volunteering and going through that time and expense.

That being said, volunteers are awesome and it's a blast.

It did go online. There was actually a one week delay in online registration because they were having website registration difficulties. I got online later in the morning of registration and gut shutout. I tried again about 15 minutes later and there were more spots available so I did get in. I thought about the 1/2 and full registration as well...not a bad option if they do offer that again.

On-site, you can register on Friday if you're racing this year, you can stand in the volunteer line Monday morning if you're volunteering, or you can stand in the non-volunteer line Monday morning if you didn't volunteer. They make sure that everyone on-site gets in, so as long as you get in line while other people are still in line, you'll be fine. The line for volunteers usually finished registering around 10:00, but I don't know about the non-volunteer line since I've only stood in the volunteer line). You can also register on-line, and that usually sells out in a few hours now (mid-afternoon CT).

Often it makes sense to race slower in order to finish faster and at the same time have a more enjoyable Ironman Triathlon experience.

During the race there will be plenty of opportunities to exchange bottles, so I'm thinking about going with the aero bottle and Gatorade bottle and fill up as necessary. What should I do?
