Stretched well.
Event warmup:

N/A
Swim
  • 20m 42s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 46s / 100 meters
Comments:

Good swim... Started off in the first wave. Second wave caught and nerly the entirire second field passed my, But I didn't stop swimming and pushed forward.
What would you do differently?:

Get some more swim time in. It took me a bit to get my rythm going.
Transition 1
  • 02m 56s
Comments:

Unbelievable!! Perhaps it a good time for changing up my T1/T2 routine .Although the time was slow, I must attribute it to my need for more swim time, the 250m run to T1 and final stripping of the wetsuit. 79th of 351.
What would you do differently?:

Try it again.
Bike
  • 43m 40s
  • 14 miles
  • 19.24 mile/hr
Comments:

My bike felt very slow even though the I maintained just short of 19.42mph! Overall, I am satisfied with the bike although for the course, fast and flat, I should have done much better. Headwind at onset for approximately the first two miles, both laps.
What would you do differently?:

Train harder on flat course and work additional sprints into my training schedule.
Transition 2
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

160 of 351. Very disappointed with the time in T2. I thought I was moving well. Potentially, I pushed to hard on the bike during the last leg and that likely slowed me down on T2. I was out of my shoes and side saddle as I approached the dismount but overshot the dismount point by about three fee so my running dismount didn't work so well. There were plenty of volunteers, but noone directed me into the maze of cones at the start/finish point.
What would you do differently?:

Pay more attention to the maze of cones and identify which lane is acutally the finish vs continue on for the second lap.
Run
  • 32m 32s
  • 3.02 miles
  • 10m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

This run was horrible!! I did the same thing last year during the International, the run was bad. I'll have to take a look at this and compare the last two races at Whilte Lake.
What would you do differently?:

Need to review/compare the past two White Lake races and try to identify what my run issue is. I have a feeling it will be pushing the bike leg. If that is the case, then I'll have to go strong initially on the bike and then taper the last mile or two in order to conserve some run ability. I'm three minutes off of my run time.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and drank three bottles of water, 4 x pieces of pizza and enjoyed the company.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training and reserve

Event comments:

Saw Alex Gonzalez in the transition area before the race, he signed up the night before and slept in a hotel. Also saw him after the race and he snapped some pics for me on the podeium for 1st in PC. Looking forward to next year.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

The triathlon made a lot of sense as I could fit the training around early mornings and other times that wouldn't eat too much into my family time. Things never go completely to plan do they?

I found a sprint, the Lake Las Vegas Triathlon, that was happening four months down the road and signed myself up; much to the surprise of friends and family.

While adequate protein is important in your sports diet, protein should take its place as the accompaniment to carbs (grains, fruits, vegetables) in each meal and snack.

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

Both the Lake Triathlon Shoe CX210TRI and the Lake Road Shoe CX225 offer distinct advantages. I tested both shoes and found them to be extremely comfortable, good looking and durable.
