Triathletes who don’t own bikes are no longer at a disadvantage in Chicago

Well, I wouldn't go THAT far...

Competing in a Divvy class sounds fun.

At Nation's Tri in DC, I know at least in one race someone has used a Capital Bikeshare bike.

They weigh over 40 lbs.

Bike sharing is awesome. We love going to a  city to site see that has bike share as a great way to get around. Having them be approved for a tri seems kind of silly but perhaps a good way to promote using them.

I did a few training rides on one of these bikes when I was on a business trip in San Francisco a few months ago. You get some odd looks when you pass people riding road bikes. If you put your elbows in the middle of the handlebars and hold onto the front rack it's "almost" like aerobars.

Who had to approve this? Some of the responses indicate that it was the race organizer but I am assuming that it was actually the bikeshare program agreeing to have the available. I don't really see anything in the geometry of bike that would have made them illegal from a race perspective, we have all see cruizers and mtb in small sprints.

Its for the super sprint only so its what 8 mile? Not like its an Oly division. They do have a Mountain bike division for the Oly.

Well, I don't think anyone would have been precluded from going ahead and picking one up and checking it into transition, but this creates a Divvy Class, where your results are compared only to the other 100 people 'officially' using a Divvy.

Not unlike "Fat Tire Divisions" in some triathlons.

I raced South Beach a few years ago and a guy rented one of the bikes right off of the rack and raced in it
