Pre-race routine:

Thanks to family coming into town and being the designated airport cabbie picker upper dude I got to bed at midnight. Being the designated race morning awesome guy that wants to hang out and bring coffee to awesome people (ladies) I woke up at 4:30am. Solid night of sleep! Nailed some solid pre race nutrition dinner Saturday night of chicken and ice cream; seconds on the ice cream.
Event warmup:

Sprinted (in my car) to Starbucks only to find the manager of Starbucks completely botched their event morning routine and DNF'd. Sprinted to another Starbucks, PRd the ordering and was on way. Hung out for 17 hours while waiting for my run. Warmed up by glaring at the other relay team runners.

Nice PR on the Starbucks ordering!  Not everyone has that skill - you have clearly mastered this art and must teach others.

And why the he!! would you NOT have beers after?  I don't understand?

I always stop by the SB on Indian School and Scottsdale before a race. Pulled in to find one of the baristas sitting outside stating the manager was AWOL so the store was still closed. Had to detour to the one on Scottsdale and Thomas instead to buy myself coffee. Also bought coffee for a lovely lady at the race.

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
