Subject: RE: How important is the kick?
Great videos dmiller. Between Bobby McGee and Ryan Hall discussing proper & efficient use of the arms in running, it's tough to argue otherwise. "butt running" where you are seated on the ground and "run" by pumping your arms and integrating the hip movement is a fun drill.
Just like in running where the arms must be a ) coordinated and b ) efficient in order to enhance rather than detract from speed, the same is true in swimming.
However in swimming proper coordination and efficient use of legs is much harder for many people. lots of kickign is one potential way of getting better, but it's kind of like a trial & error approach...just do a bunch and maybe you'll figure it out.
However if that's not been a productive approach for an individual, they may see quicker improvment, faster speed and more efficient swimming by minimizing use of the legs.
Basically everyone is going to be different and it's tough to say without seeing some one swim right in front of me, what the best approach to kick training will be. There is no once size fits all.
So to the OP... kick sets might help, they might not. |
