Comments:

I felt great during the run. I was drinking enough to keep me hydrated. I felt good enough to break 2 hours. However, then came the monster hill. Did not see that bad boy coming. Lesson learned - do more research on the course. The hill was ridiculous. I ran up it, but I would say 90% of the people were walking it - some faster than me running! That was at about mile 9. That absolutely killed me.

When I made it to the top, I was gassed. Thankfully there was a drink station soon thereafter. I drank two cups of sport drink. This hurt me because I drank too much. I felt the liquid in my stomach for the rest of the race. I don't think I was dehydrated at that point, I just wanted to drink something cause I was so tired so I over-hydrated. Lesson learned.

The final two miles or so were on a decline which was nice.

Overall I did much better than I thought. I learned a lot from this race which I think will help me down the road.

The folks who put on the event did a great job. Also, the volunteers were amazing. The finisher medal is also awesome.
What would you do differently?:

Pace my hydration and don't drink too much at one station.
Post race
Warm down:

Chocolate milk and a banana.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The hill!

Event comments:

Great half marathon in a beautiful city. Couldn't ask for more. We are spoiled living in southern California.

I just finished the NYC marathon on Sunday and I think I'm going to venture into triathlons. I am doing an Olympic distance and I want to do a 70.3 next year too. Any advice?

I just ran the Boston Marathon under nine minute miles, can I run eight minute miles for my half Ironman training runs? Or should I go slower?

Steady is our walk. Ignoring the pain that is radiating from my feet, I continue to place one foot in front of the other. Again I wonder, “Why am I doing this?”

Having three seasons under my belt I thought I knew what I was doing. That all changed with a few new challenges and a bunch of new friends.
