I'm not here to stir up anything with this thread, as it is sad that 2 runners passed away during the half-marathon.

I just wanted to check in and comment that the course must've been pretty tough, as in the M40-44 age group, there were two Boston-qualifying times...out of 151 in that age group. That is an extremely low qualifying percentage (1.3%).

Tough course, humid morning, and rising temperatures likely contributed. Even the winning time of 2:38 is comparatively slow.

Yeah, hard to know what happened without knowing more about their background. Regardless of why, it is very sad.

1100 feet plus of Elevation gain!. I knew Raleigh was hilly but did not expect it to be that bad. My projected time was under 5hrs and I came in at 540. Rough course, some areas seem desolate and hot. With it being the first year I will be giving a lot of feedback and hoping to do it again. Definitely challenging but want to see if better prepared how I can do. It was very hot and seemed to be little areas with shade. There has been no word on the two that past but I am assuming it had a lot to do with the heat!

After you have established the Ironman goal, the most important factor outside of the training is which race to choose? What is your best sort of course, hilly, rolling, flat?
