Subject: Nathan from New Brunswick
Hello,

My name is Nathan. I am a 25 year old male living in New Brunswick, Canada.

I have never done a triathlon before. I've been a swimmer my whole life and am a fairly strong swimmer, I run 5-10km regularly because of my job (military) although I will confess I am neither a natural runner nor do I enjoy it that much, and I biked everywhere as a kid but have very little experience with actual cycling (currently see this as my biggest obstacle to my first triathlon).

I have decided to start triathlons IOT actually motivate me to do more swimming, biking, and running. I tore my patellar tendon a couple years ago and couldn't do any physical training for 6-7 months. I gained quite a bit of weight and have not been able to get back to my pre-injury form. Without something to train for on the horizon I often slack off on the physical training, because I am mostly motivated by competition / goal-setting. I figure triathlons are a good avenue as I enjoy a bit of variety in my cardio training.

My plan is to start with an Olympic distance triathlon. I can get through a sprint triathlon right now without any training (although I'm sure I wouldn't place very well) so I don't think I'd be setting the bar high enough for myself. I would like to do a few Olympic distance triathlons in a season to get the hang of it and see if I want to move up in distance.

To give you an idea of where I am starting at physically...
Swim: 1500m ~32 minutes comfortably
Bike: Unknown
Run: 5km ~24m, 10km ~50m

Keep in mind, those are when the legs are done individually, not consecutively. so I am sure my 10km run time would take a bit hit after a swim and bike.

Thank you all in advance for your help as I will definitely have many questions to ask.

For most people, there is a story in how they came to the sport as beginners. Some of the most inspiring of those beginner tales begin with health scares.

My expectations for the quality of this years’ Triathlon world championship were fulfilled. This was because of the superb location that is like no other along with having the top triathletes present.

There is a marvelous destiny out there waiting for you too, but only if you are willing to take chances and put yourself on the line.
