Subject: Saddle problems won't go away
I started tris last year and immediately had saddle problems. Reading some posts here, I bought a Adamo Prologue and that saved my "private parts" from falling asleep but it's been over a year and the saddle problems are still with me. After riding 20 minutes, it is uncomfortable. Then my left leg starts to fall asleep. I shift between drops and aero to help it but by the time I've ridden an hour, it's really uncomfortable. I've tied the end of the prologue saddle so that they are closer together and that has helped a bit. The prologue has good padding. I wonder it my nerves are threaded in the wrong places and they are being compressed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

x2 on a bike fit.  The best saddle in the world will still be uncomfortable with a less than ideal bike fit and position.

Get a bike fit and if you have had one get another one.

I agree with the bike fit but you can also try changing the angle of your seat. A slight down angle seems to work best for me.

Saddles are finicky. The longest week of my life was when I tried an Adamo. They don't work for me but they are ideal for others.

Go to a good local bike store. Talk to the fitter. Many bike stores have demo programs to try new saddles. You are not the first rider to have trouble. Find a helpful store and keep trying till you find a saddle that works.

Lastly, buy good shorts and I find chamois creme helps A LOT :-)

Good luck!

I did have a bike fit and with this saddle. I'm not near a major centre so it's hard for me to get to a bike shop that has any choice in saddles. The only one nearby has only a couple of saddles to choose from.

You could just order one to be delivered.

That said, you do have an Adamo, and that may be just fine. Like others have said, changing the angle may help. Also, you want to be on your sit bones right at the end of the prongs, so if you've been sitting "on" the seat, you may need to push it back.. Keep in mind, its not going to be super comfy, especially at first, but you really shouldn't have numbness if you are sitting on it correctly.

Other things to consider:

Riding more makes it better.
What bike shorts do you wear? I find less padding, the better.
A good fit like others have said.
Also, they way I look at it, a bit of pain and discomfort, well, that just comes with the territory. Again, if you are getting numbness, then you have to keep tweaking things until that goes away.

The Adamo saddles are a godsend for a lot of people but not for everyone. Some people can flat-out not use an Adamo or similar saddle. At this point I would look at trying a different saddle.

Last year I was having a huge issue with pressure sores on my nether regions. Robbed me of a lot of the pleasure of being on the bike. I went and saw a local fitter and he lowered my saddle almost a CM and voila, have not had an issue since.

Fitters are incredibly variable. No two fitters will put you on the bike in exactly the same way. You need to go back and see your fitter and explain your issues with the saddle. They should work with you to solve this problem.

FWIW, I use a Cobb V flow plus. It is their middle of the road saddle. Not as narrow as the Gen 2, not as wide as the V flow max. It works for me. I would suggest calling Cobb and seeing if they have any ideas for you. They have an great policy for letting you try the saddle (used to be for 6 months, not sure if it still is) and return it if it didn't work. It was literally a no lose situation. Just a thought since you say you are not near a place that offers much in the way of saddles.

I just put a Cobb V flow plus on my tri bike as well. I do not have any long rides on it yet but has been very comfy for my shorter(25mile) rides. Even though it is comfy I will play with angles over the next month to see how much better I can get it.

Fitters can do a lot for you, but don't be afraid to make some minor changes to dial it in. Measure everything best you can before moving it then just moves things a little at a time.

I know I moved my seat up 1/8" from where the fitter had it, and when I did everything just seemed better.

If you don't live near a good fitter, you can do an on line fit with same guy who I have had done last two fits, Todd Keynon.

He will check your fit and if he can improve it you pay for the fit if not, no charge. Works well for folks that live in a place not easy to get a bike fit.

I cannot get comfortable without the nose of the saddle being tilted down. I have tried many different seats and had two professional fittings, but still have excessive numbness and discomfort.

Finding the right bicycle saddle is often a confusing process of trial and error for cyclists. However, a little education goes a long way, and will perhaps save you some pain and discomfort as well.

The ISM Adamo Racing Saddle is difficult to define. It doesn’t look like a bicycle saddle. It doesn’t mount like a bicycle saddle. And yet, it does feel like a bicycle saddle.
