Total Time = 1h 17m 12s
Overall Rank = 2f/

Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Drove there (45 min) and set up transition. First tri of the year so the jitters were in full force.
Event warmup:

Swam about 250 warm up in indoor pool.
Swim
  • 07m 36s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 54s / 100 yards
Comments:

I have not been doing enough swimming. The woman behind me passed me fairly early, and then I was able to draft her for the remainder. It was an ok swim considering there was quite a bit of congestion in the pool, starting only 10 seconds apart.
What would you do differently?:

I lost a few seconds when I pulled over for a swimmer to pass me. Otherwise, I just went with the flow. Probably could have gone about 10 seconds quicker but I have some improvements to make.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Helmet was a little tangled.
What would you do differently?:

Also, leave shoes open a little wider.
Bike
  • 44m 36s
  • 15.75 miles
  • 21.19 mile/hr
Comments:

So I was having the bike of my life when I noticed a guy had crashed and was lying in the grass. I stopped briefly to help him. He thought he had broken his collarbone, so I spoke with him about calling 911 but instead he had me go to the next volunteers and send someone. I heard later he was ok. Glad I stopped, but it probably cost me a minute or two. Despite this, I still had a faster bike then last year and just missed the 1st place girl by 10 seconds. At least I know all that Computrainer riding this winter paid off, and I can't wait to see what happens when I have a clean trip.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. If someone is in danger they should be your priority, so I do not regret stopping to check on him. The winner would have still beat me and I would have still finished second with a clean trip probably.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 22m 30s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 30s  min/km
Comments:

By this point, my heart was not in it. I figured any PR's were not gonna happen today. I also knew there was a 5K a few hours later with cash prizes so I held back a little. It worked. I finished comfortable and was able to go finish second in the 5K and make $200 a few hours later.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. The $200 made me happier than a PR! lol
Post race
Warm down:

Talked to friends and enjoyed the day. Ate some bananas and pb and j sandwiches.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

A few things. Stopping on the bike, being rusty on getting into my bike shoes out of transition, fidgeting with my helmet in T1 and having a slow run.

Event comments:

All Headfisrt Performance Races are wonderful events. There is a great blog about this organization at The Holistic Athlete.
