Has anyone had the problem where your 910 does not acquire satellites? I've had it happen twice now in the past month. The first time it happened when I went out for a run…got home and had my overall time but no distance. Second time it happened was today. I did my first open water swim with a friend. We pulled on our wetsuits and jumped in…I made sure to select open water swim and hit the start button. After we finished, I looked down, and once again, had an overall time but no distance. This was a course that he swims frequently so I had an approximate distance from him but I would have liked to see my path on GPS. Any suggestions???

I would probably try a master reset.  Then follow the instructions of actually leaving the watch out for about 20 minutes to acquire satellites.

My friend had an issue with his satellites (sounds like a futuristic problem). Anyways, he sent his back and got a new one. That thing is too expensive not to work as well as it should.

Do you make sure it's locked in before you start moving? If you start searching before it locks in it can "think" you are doing an indoor workout and stop searching.

Most of the time, they will connect within a few minutes, but sometimes it can take 5-10 minutes.  It's crucial that you allow it time to do this before starting.

Also, don't think of the GPS signal as "on" or "off".  There are multiple satellites that it can connect to, and the more it "sees" the more accurate the data will be.  If you only have the minimum number, it will be less accurate, and it will look like your pace and location are jumping around.  I've seen people do this many times and blame the device when it's really a user error issue.

You can check in the menus (I can't recall the exact menu choices) for then number of satellites connected and accuracy of the connection.  I don't start sessions until the accuracy is less than 20 feet.

I just set a data field in the "other" sport category as GPS accuracy. It is faster, and satisfies Garmin's old workaround of switching sport mode to help out the altimeter bug, although I'm sure they have incorporated that in the last several FW updates.
Otherwise: Main menu - GPS - Satellites.
