Well yeah.....if you want to throw that in.....so now, in light of your second link,  is the sentence she received fair?

It has been my experience that when you do something obviously against our society's moral code......like driving drunk and killing someone, you pay a very steep price.  We tend to look at prison as THE punishment.  Not hardly.

Same thing happened around here not too long ago. Two women (mothers/wives) died while on a charity ride. The sad thing is that the 19 year old was pulled over hours before and did not have a licenese but was only ticketed and allowed to go.

We have a legal system in the US, not a justice system.

This.  It is not justice.   It is also likely the result of the current economic climate in L.A. County. We have lost a third of our courts, and the ones that are open have reduced hours and capacity.   The tendency of cases to settle on a plea deal will only increase (from the incredibly high rate it currently is).

what's wrong with criminal cases being resolved on pleas? it's efficient, saves resources and everyone elses' productive time, and most matters are clear cut enough to not require a trial.

i'm also not sure what you're complai t is. are bothered by the fact that someone got jail time for killing a chclist? Tye more common refrain is the system goes to easy on drivers who kill cyclists. i've only see. people get time in eggregious cases.

Unfortunately, yes. I'm actually shocked she got any jail time at all. It's probably because she was drunk. It seems that people in cars run over cyclists, and even if they kill them, don't get charged with anything.

I could be wrong, but it seems if someone in a car kills someone else in a car, they get a stiffer sentence than when someone in a car kills someone on a bike.

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.
