Hey guys and gals, I'm headed out to St. George, for the 70.3 next week. I probably should not run long the week of a triathlon. However, I want to hit several miles of the Zion 100 to experience the course. Is there an area that is the most spectacular or recommended - maybe 10 to 12 miles. Please tell me all the information you can - trail name peaks etc if you can. I want to do this run Wednesday when I arrive and time will be a little tight. I will need to get there and start running ASAP to get it in before it gets dark. Thanks for the time.

Heck we got lost 3 times for almost 2 hours total on a "marked" course so I wont be able to help you!. If you are on FB or go to google and search for Fast Cory - his name is Cory Reese and message him...he lives there knows the area well, run all the time and will prolly go for a run with you!

First off dont mean to hijack thread!!!!

It was absolutely beautiful!!! On monday of that week I came down with Strep throat and got an antibiotic shot as well as pills to try to get better....4 days later was the run...i was about 70%? Still very dizzy and had finally started to be able eat again on Weds - im just glad I was able to start the event!! I missed the cutoff to go on after the 100K mostly due to being lost 3 times 2 which were excess of 40 min off track each way and we missed the cut off by 20 min...then were told we had to go another 8 miles to the next station since the timers and they already put the aid station up so that was a little pissy. Then to top that pissyness off the RD allowed people to finish the run 4 HOURS after the 2pm cutouff and there was 6 with me that were 20 min late at the 100K.
I honestly told myself and my mother who texted and called me a couple times from ohio cause she was worried about my health and I promised not to do anything stupid (i was having shoulder surgery for a torn labrum 2 days after i got home for this so didnt want to be too sick to do that either) but i said i would analyze at the 100K and decide what to do since I was still really dizzy and knew there was a nasty down hill at mile 72 that would be in the dark so Im think it was a God send that I missed the cut off.
Fast Cory can tell you the difference between both courses...he did zion 100 this year and finished and did Bryces last year but only made it to the 100K...even though he lives there he felt the altitude played a role. Im thinking about Bryces next year maybe just the 100k?? Check out antelope island buffalo run in March...im gonna come do the 50 miler with a friend doing it as her first 50.
I will say I cant stop thinking about the beauty out there and cant wait to go again...it honestly has me wanting to relocate!!!

Thanks for the info Jenn! I'm planning on Antelope Canyon 50 in February, then Bryce 100 in June since it works best!

I agree with the allure of the area, I've raced out there several times, and my spirit is always screaming at me to go back.

It’s a challenge to push yourself a little harder and a little further. Be proud of every workout that is accomplished and every step-even the baby ones-that you take on this course to the finishline.
