Subject: OWS in SLC area
I'm looking to do a few open water swims before I head up to Boise for the HIM in June... Any of you know if there's any open water swimming in the area yet? I'm not very close to Herriman, so it would be nice to know if I can swim in Blackridge before I head over there.

I've been out of triathlons for awhile and I replaced my wetsuit in the fall, so I'd really like to do at least one OWS before race day.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I usually swim in Jordanelle up in Park City... it's COLD right now. I also swim down in Vernon area where I waterski... water is bone chilling... but then again, I'm not a fan of wetsuits.

Pineview is my normal area, but I wouldn't attempt that prior to June 1. You could try Bountiful Pond, it tends to warm up pretty quick.

MAPS is Meditation, Acclimatization, Practice, and Strategy, which are key for giving you the confidence and skills to execute the open-water swim in a triathlon well.

Steady is our walk. Ignoring the pain that is radiating from my feet, I continue to place one foot in front of the other. Again I wonder, “Why am I doing this?”

Stroke after stroke, my pace was pulling me out into the middle of the lake quickly. The cover seemed to be getting thicker. But still in the distance, the little boathouse was my lighthouse.

Some are getting a little OWS practice in, others are strategizing, the rest are just plain scared.
