I have a great pair of Pearl Izumi Carbon Tri Fly IV shoes that are three years old and have at least 10,000 miles on them. How often do most folks change out their shoes? I replace the cleats every 5000 miles/ yearly. I only changed out my last pair when they started to get really "funky".

I bought mine in 2006 and do about 8,000 miles a year. Replaced the cleats a lot but shoes are showing no sign of needing it.

I've been getting about 3 years out of a pair of road shoes.  I probably replace the cleats once a year on average.

My tri shoes last longer.  My first pair of Lake tri shoes lasted about five years.  Just got a new pair of LG tri shoes for this year.

I usually wipe off my shoes with a damp rag after each ride and stuff them with newspaper to dry out if they get wet.

Only when they are so nasty they need their own room.  I'm on my third pair of tri shoes because they are always wet and funky, although I finally tossed the last pair in the washing machine and they have new life!

I have the same pair of MTB shoes I bought when I first started in 2006, and they suffer the most because I wear them in snow, rain, etc.

I had my last pair since 2003.  I just replaced them 2 weeks ago.  They probably had around 20,000 km on them.

IF the Shoe fits wear IT

No really if the shoe is not quite obviously worn out and is not causing you any issues hot spots or sores ect then just replace the cleat
and keep right on peddling, sometimes breaking in a new pair can be a real pain in the A$$, so why bother if you don't need too.

I have 3 pairs 1 really good Road shoe I use for long rides a cheap tri shoe I use for everyday training, and a much better tri shoe That is race day of TT only , Cleats were set exactly the same with a cleat tool and I use a non floating cleat I can hardly tell any difference when changing from one to the next
at all .

Same pair of shoes since 2009, but I've replaced the cleats almost yearly.

So far they haven't become too disgusting, but I've also thrown them in the wash at the end of each year.

Got my Shimano R132 shoes in 2009, have about 9k miles on them, they look good and work well. Have replaced the cleats a few times. If I come up with some spare cash I might replace them for aesthetic reasons, but they work just fine for now.

Stinky bike shoes, easy fix wash them in dishwasher top shelf w/dishwash soap and no dishes taking out the inserts. Do not dry them. Afterwards stuff newspaper in them to help get out the wetness then ideally put them on a boot dryer to get the dry within about 12 hours. Boot dryer works great for wet running shoes and more just buy a cheap one.

I replace my bike shoes usually every 3-4 years so about 15000 miles and cleats atleast once a year.

Shoes don't matter as much as the cleats. That is the main contact point from foot to bike and wear and tear will give you a loss in power. Cleats should b replaced at least once a year, depending on use, wear, etc. Shoes can go longer.

Every couple of years. Usually they get stretched out or I break the straps.

I love my shoes they are 13 years old, and have maybe...60,000 miles? Lots of miles. I have replaced the cleats 2x.

I just replaced my tri shoes. That's about 5-6 years. I've replaced the cleats twice in that time. When there's no colour left on the bottom of the cleat, it's time to replace them.

The shoes take forever to wear out.

My Sidis are probably 12-13 years old.  I just replaced the buckle and strap.  I think my feet will wear out first.

Oh?.......so, like, you're supposed to replace the cleats?!?! Good thing I got onto this discussion list as I did not know you had to do that. I got my first shoes 3 years ago and have not replaced the cleats. So, if I replace them, I'll get faster, correct? LOL!

Still lurnin'.......still lurnin'.....

I've had the same shoes (Sidi) since I got my road bike almost three years ago. But in the past few months I feel like the shoes are shrinking. They used to fit fine and now they are too tight. Anyone else had this situation? I could see if I was running particularly high mileage or something, maybe my feet could be swelling up, but I'm not. I guess it could be the heat, but I haven't noticed any problem with my running or work shoes, only with the bike shoes. Hate to think about replacing them as they were really expensive, and the ONLY ones that fit after trying on literally hundreds of pairs (I have long, narrow feet). Any ideas why they might be shrinking????

So, since my beloved go-to shoe brand has changed its shoe, after reading the bruhaha about the minimalist shoe, I decided to give it a try. Now I have a foot issue with my arch area.

If you are a fitness exerciser, you are unlikely to need extra electrolytes to replace those lost in sweat. If you exercise hard for more than four hours in the heat, replacment may be needed.

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"
