Comments:

Out of all the age groupers, I was the 10th off the boat. I knew tons of people would pass me, but I didn't want to have to swim over anyone. As soon as I took my first breath to sight, I knew I ran into a huge problem. The person who zipped up my wetsuit did something wrong. The velcro rubbed on the nape of my neck with every breath. This is gonna hurt...

Beside that issue, the swim was choppy and my sighting was poor. I swam every which way but straight. So glad to be done with the swim!
What would you do differently?:

Wore a sleeveless wetsuit.
Transition 1
  • 04m
Comments:

My suit got caught on my garmin, so I needed extra help. The run to transition was longer than most races which is never fun but not too bad.
What would you do differently?:

walked and got jack up my heart rate.
Bike

Comments:

This was the most challenging ride ever. Maybe I'm weak, maybe I'm out of shape. Either way, it was the most challenging for me. There was a point when I was going 8mph up a hill. Yes, I was still on my bike at this time. Luckily, the tailwind was amazing coming back into town. I charged 19mph going up that same hill. Needless to say, the wind got the best of me.
Transition 2
  • 03m
Comments:

Got in, got out. Nothing much to say here.
Run
  • 1h 10m 11s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 11m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

According to my time, I didn't do good. According to me, I ran the better than I have in a long time. The last two miles got the best of me and I walked a bit.
Post race
Warm down:

I sat, I ate, I drank.

Event comments:

I"ll be back next year!

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
