Looking to branch out from TTL and the good ole loop courses around Tempe. Saw this one and was curious if anyone has done it and if so, what was the course like? How was the swim? Any tips would be great. Thinking of doing the HIM there instead of SOMA this year (just can't bring myself to do 3 loops and U-turns galore). Just looking for options!
Was going to shoot for Deuces Wild Toughman in June, but won't fit into our schedule, and the Mountainman half is the day right before school starts so timing would be tough.
Thanks for any advice...going to go search through race reports now to see if there are any :-)!

I know the feeling of wanting to branch out from Tempe. I started doing more regional and national events after IMAZ 2009, and have only been back to TTL twice since.  I did HITS Lake Havasu (Olympic) in 2012.  My race report is at the link below.

Thank you! Great RR! Only thing I would be worried about is the cooler temps - I'm a cold weather wimp...but I need to suck it up !

My 6 year old keeps asking if we can go to Lake Havasu to see the London Bridge (he's a bit of a geography freak) so I thought...hmmm...I bet I can find a triathlon there. Nov would actually be a good time to go.

Thanks again!

The year I did it, it was unseasonably cold, so you'll probably have better luck. Their normal temps would be about the as the valley is for Soma most years, within a few degrees.

This race was GREAT. the RR is spot on. I emphasize, the organization great, setup great, course was great. yes, a bit cooler which is why you see some really fast times, but on a hotter day, you'll just see fast times. highly recommended over Sonoma in every aspect.

Wanted to but it's the same weekend as Ragnar Trail McDowell and we're planning on being out there in full Zoot force.

I've had my sights on this one. I was either thinking half or olympic. I'm going to see how this summer goes...

I'm selecting The Lake Havasu Tri in Mar 2015 as my first triathlon I'm excited.. so info on the course is definitely helpful.

Actually I did the Hits Half last year at Lake Havasu. It was my first half.

Swim - one loop around a triangle set of buoys with beach start. 4-500 meters of congestion but not bad after that. Full IMer's did 2 laps.

Bike - 2 out and backs for 56 miles. At the turn around were several steep but short hills. Being my first HIM this pushed me a bit. Course is fairly flat other than that.

Run - out and back for 13.1. Again its flat and slightly rollingish but there's no impact from it.

Weather - was perfect. Very slight wind and 70s I think.

Setup - excellent, great venue, lots of vendors. T1 and T2 are in a park where the lake is, so its very family and spectator friendly. Just coming out of T1/T2 you have local shops etc and they would stop and watch etc. Made it loads of fun.

I HIGHLY recommend it. It was a great first one for me and I'm going back for 2014!!

The triathlon made a lot of sense as I could fit the training around early mornings and other times that wouldn't eat too much into my family time. Things never go completely to plan do they?

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"

A description of my experiences during my first triathlon. It was a great experience. I’m in better shape than I’ve ever been.
