Subject: right goggle always fills up halfway - help!
I've tried multiple goggle types - through to the more snorkel mask style ones and I always have the same problem.

At about 750m (I'm training for the 1500m swim) my right google starts filling up with water. The googles are usually fine until around 20-30 laps into a session.

Then I either have to stop or tread water while I clear and refit the googles. That breaks up my training and afterwards the seal doesn't last very long. The water usually starts seeping into the right hand side a few laps later. This goes on and gets very irritating.

It happens every time I swim and therefore I think it will surely happen in the event unless I find a magical solution. It ruins my time as I have to stop and it also makes the experience much more uncomfortable. I'm happy with my swim technique, strength and fitness and this is the only thing that gets me really nervous.

Does anyone have any tips or prior experience with this kind of problem? I'm wondering whether I frown as the effort increases and maybe that causes a wrinkle that lets the water in.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Funny, I had that same thing happen to me last night! I'm not really sure what caused it, either. Once I refitted my goggles, though, they seemed to be fine. I'd be curious to see what others have to say, as well!

I use the Seal Aquaspheres (mask-type goggles) and have had no problems. You may want to try a couple of things:

Dry your face before putting your goggles on.
Make sure none of your hair is getting under the seal.
Crank up the tension on the band after putting your goggles on.

Otherwise, you may just need to experiement with even more types of goggles to find the right ones for you.

It's the frowning, try not wearing your goggles over your swim cap, or your head is bigger on the right side.

I have to wear my goggles or mask pretty tight in order not to get water in them. I've noticed that other people's don't seem to have to be on as tight (give they don't have NEARLY the marks on their faces from them that I get), but every time I try and go looser I get water in them...

Turn them upside down. Sounds crazy, I know, but a coach recommended it to me, and I haven't had the problem since (no, your left side shouldn't fill instead...).

i find tightening the nose strap rather than the head strap helps.

You're probably wearing the strap too high or low on your head. If the angle is off, your goggles will pull up or down and fill with water. Sometimes it helps to try putting the strap on different places on your head. It may also help to get a split strap so it stays on your head better.

Make sure your hair (including your eyebrows) is not getting caught in your goggles. Are you kicking really hard off the wall? Don't forget to make "big eyes when you put them on and adjust them. I've had good luck with the goggle style and with most other's except the socket rockets which leaked like a sieve.
