Stopping by for a check-in, life has been real busy. Today I ran the route of my next sprint tri (in just over a week) and felt Ok, but looking at my time from last year I was a bit slower. Granted race day is always a different beast than training so hopefully I will be able to kick up my pace. Next week I'll run it a few more times to get it dialed in, the big hill in the last mile is always a killer.

After reading through the last page here it sounds like there are lots of great gains being made and some perils to overcome. Stay strong and become stronger, delicious beer awaits the victors!

Mark - you will be so much faster after your taper. Also, having an icy cold beverage waiting for you at the finish line will help you crush that last hill!

30 days to Ironman Mont Tremblant!

I woke up this morning feeling yesterday's run. My hip smarts but not as bad as I thought it would. I'm gonna make it my mission to ice and roll like it's my job today.

I've got a light training weekend - a hour swim and a short bike ride tomorrow. Next week will be rough but the end is in sight!

Good luck to those racing this weekend! Have a blast people!

A bike yesterday and run/swim today brings me to 18/28. Even better I haven't missed a workout this week. I'm working so no beer.

18/28 with a nice 5.66 mile run (last mile with dog - therefore the fastest!). Ready for a rest day but might do a brick tomorrow with a friend out on the race course if I can get someone to watch the kiddos.

Good luck this weekend Sandi! Anyone else racing?

Every few weeks - I have a workout like the one I had today. I hopped in the lake at 7:30. The temp was in the 60's and when I started to wish it was warmer - I thought of Sandi and realized how good I had it. I got in a grove and the swim felt great! A bald eagle flew by me 2x. It was so nice.

Hip feels better today. Looks like all the rolling and ice are paying off. Short ride this afternoon. Have a great day everyone!

Well, the good news is that it has been so hot here that the normally freezing lake is about 70 degrees. I have never been in it so warm. The bad news is that we're surrounded by fires. Thus far we've just been lucky and the wind hasn't shifted so there's no smoke here so the race is still going on. Fingers crossed it stays that way for another day or so and that the fires are contained. The half iron and Olympic races are today, tomorrow is the sprint and try-a-tri.

Good thing I got here early for a swim practice because if I hadn't I pretty much was guaranteed a DNF. Even though temperature wasn't factor, this lake can have serious waves and swells and yesterday morning when I went in for my practice it was whitecaps. It took several hours of practice and working with myself (and a very patient and encouraging husband) before I was able to work through it and do the swim. I was going to take today totally off but I'll probably try to get out there and do it again.

Great job, Sandi! Hopefully the whitecaps calm down tomorrow! Geesh, you and cold, wavy water - you are aqua-girl now! Good luck tomorrow!

20/28 today with a bike/run brick.
Rode with 3 (1 girl, 2 guys) other seasoned cyclists who have all done HIMs, Olys, & Sprints so it was soooo great to join in. One was on a tri bike (girl) and it was fascinating to see what the hills did to that bike! I easily kept up on the flats/downhills and actually had to break often so I didn't hit them. At the hills I had to pull out and pass all of them almost every time. After the ride they thanked me for pushing them. LOL Guess my hill training is paying off. So nice to have people to ride with! After the ride we changed shoes and immediately ran a 5k through their VERY HILLY neighborhood (such is life in VT!) starting right off with a steep, steep hill, a few more sprinkled in and finally another one to end on. S.P.E.N.T. good stuff. They told me I'm ready. Very sweet of them.
6 days of workouts in a row with 4 bricks in there. Looking forward to a day off tomorrow and tapering this next week for next weekend's race.
Tonight....Switchback beer.

Cheers!

When you feel like you are hitting the wall and can't go on think of my friend pictured  who last Sunday did the Olympic in 3 hours seven minutes. I used to play rugby with him for many years...

A few years ago he contracted flesh eating disease. they amputated both legs right up to the top and removed  muscle and tendon from one arm.

I brought him a beer while cooling off after race!

I knew my week was going to well, called in early as I left for my bike ride. I tried to give up my lunch to get my ride in but the command staff wanted us to stay close and available so no workout today.

still 18/28

A friend of mine, who is a photographer, took some pictures of me when I was in Ottawa riding in the Gatineau Hills. He made me look way more bada$$ than I actually am and so I am going to show them off here.

Alan - Those pics are awesome. I so wish we get some good pics on the course of IMMT. Of course we will both be looking like we are close to death but there's hope.

I rode my bike yesterday afternoon. My heart rate was off the charts and my pulse was a good 10-15 beats faster than average. That combined with the fact that my legs felt like jello on the hills makes me think that my body is still pretty tired after my long run this week.

I totally messed up my schedule by doing the last couple workouts on the wrong days so I might take today off to prep for next week.

My friends are leaving the cottage today so it's back to drinking PBR until my next set of friends get here on Thursday. Bleh! Have a good day everyone.

Hope Sandy (sp) and Charles are having a blast at their races right now! Kick some butt!

How did races go this weekend?

That is an awesome story about your friend competing after being a double amputee. It really puts it into perspective when i complain about a tough workout.

Dave I was called in early and didn't get off till 2am. I knew I was going to have to get up at 11 this morning to get my run and swim in before work tonight so i am just calling it an unplanned rest day.

I DID IT!!!!!

Went really well...much better than I'd expected. My "realistic" expectation was about 2 hours....that was kind of my informal goal but I know you shouldn't have one for your first tri, so I tried to abandon that.

So, I was somewhat thrilled with 1:32:55, 35th overall and 3 in my AG! The swim went AMAZING....I completely got into my groove and once I passed my first competitor it was all over. Did it in 9 minutes 3 seconds. T1 was lengthy, but I had sort of planned for it to be and was okay with that. The bike was around 48 minutes...about six minutes less than I'd expected....I really went much faster than I had in training, but in all honesty my odometer also read the bike at 12.2 miles, NOT 13. T2 pretty much consisted of me taking off my helmet and racking the bike so was under a minute. The run went GREAT. Ran the entire course and felt fantastic by mile 1, finished under 29 minutes, .

I've got to say...this triathlon probably will make every other event I enter a letdown. It was SO well organized with tons of support. The lake was absolutely clear...and they laid a damn line down for you to follow on the lake floor. Once I saw that it was like a lifeline...I could just focus on that and counting my strokes, not on anything else.

And yeah...I think I might enter a few more. LOL. :-)

I did inform my family and friends that I deserved to be the diva of the day and therefore guided the rest of the day's drinking (and eating) activities.

Sandi, you rock!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations!!! 9 minutes on the swim?!?! You ARE Aquagirl! Great, great job!! I can't imagine being able to follow a line on the bottom of the lake, that is so cool!!
I love the pint glass!! Was this an age group third place winner reward? It's a keeper!
You should be so proud of yourself, and yeah, you need to rock some more tris!

Nicely done!

Sandi - We are all so proud of you! 3rd place is your age group is quite the accomplishment for your first race! Love the fact they put a rope down for you to follow. I've never heard of that before but it's something that I would love to see.

My only concern is that in your picture - the level of beer in your pint glass (awesome) is pretty close to the level in the other. Come on woman! Drink faster. You're now an official triathlete (and a bada$$) - you've got a reputation to uphold!

Seriously, I hope this is the first of many! Enjoy everyone of them!
