Alan,

Thank you for the off season motivational tips. I also like to plan out my races for the year with a goal of at least one per month.

Happy early Thanksgiving for those who are celebrating! I plan on a 10k Turkey Trot to burn off some calories before the feast. Stay moving!

Mark - I agree with the need to sign up for races that come around every month. If I don't have something staring me in the face, it's hard to work up the interest! What are you going to sign up for? More half marathons?

I have 2 half marathons on my calendar at the moment: one the last weekend of December to finish off my runs as part of the California Half-Marathon series (run 4+ HM's, get an extra medal! It's all about the bling). In January I'm doing a full weekend of Disney runs (5k, 10k, HM).

After that, my calendar is open as I need to visit my podiatrist and check on my heel. Seems like I may be battling the onset of plantar fasciitis and I don't want to schedule too many big runs if I'm going to be dealing with that. If so I will be spending more time on my bike.

Looks like the activity is back Yay BDAAS! Now if I can get off my a$$ and contribute as well, lol. Got one in for the 30/30. Getting a swim in tonight as well so that puts me at 2.

Does strength training count since it's in my BT plan and part of my program?

Flat tire sidetracked my run this morning so I switched it up and hopped on my cycle trainer to get in #2. 28 to go.

I am going to say swim/bike/run only as the min. times are not too difficult to complete...

Cheers!

short run tonight - then my back went out. i am flat on my back on the floor with 800mg of Advil floating around. My PT has already emailed me a couple of stretches and I see him on Thursday. Keeping this short as I can't sit, stand, or be horizontal for any amount of time without being in agony. This too shall come to pass - it's not the first time but I'm curious as to what caused it.

cheers and let me live my life vicariously through you guys for the next few days! Get out there and do stuff and post it so I know the world continues to spin in the appropriate direction and the isogonic lines haven't shifted! LOL I will complete this challenge.

Cheers!
Jenn

I would imagine the changeover will be coming soon...Nice job on the new wheels! I envy you in that you can still ride outside instead of on a cycle trainer like us chumps to the north!

OK, I'm in for the challenge but am making substitutions. :-)

After three months of hell, I am FINALLY getting over this sinus problem likely brought on by bad lake water this summer. So I am going to stay out of the pool for another month (I'm horribly allergic to chlorine, and jumping into a known allergen when getting over sinusitis just sounds dumb....LOL).

My main goals for next year are to continue to do and improve at sprints, but my off season goal is to really work on my core. Just good for overall long term health. I want abs that match my aerobic ability next summer. My old instructor just opened her own gym and her core workouts make any triathlon I do look like a vacation. (I burned 325 calories in 40 minutes last week doing one...and it was NOT an aerobic workout). So I'm substituting core classes (minimum half hour, max an hour) for a swim. And once we get snow...well, X-C skiing is going to be in there too. :-)

2/30, 45 min run and spinning class (swimming is 'scary' in this cold weather, even in the pool!).

Cynthia, congrats on your new job!
Jenn, hope your back recovers soon, the challenge is waiting for you!

New toy came in the mail Monday. My new Garmin 920xt. It's smaller than my 910xt and the display is easier to read. I like the run metrics on it without needing a foot pod. I can see there is a ton I still need to learn about it but it's similar enough to the 910 to make the transition easy.

The coolest part has to be the wifi and bluetooth. It syncs with my phone so it lets me know when I get any type of notification on my phone, i.e. calls, texts, email, etc. Not really tri related or needed but still cool The part I sold to my wife was the safety of being able to live track me when I am on a long ride. Only drawback is you have to carry your cellphone for it to work.

Good thing for you that your wife didn't know Runtastic will live track you for free...or maybe she does and is just a really good wife!

If skiing counts then I am counting yoga. Hot yoga kicks my butt every time and I am using it as my strength training. You should see my arms!

4/28...I can't remember who put this new challenge out???Was it the challenge master Thor? Anyway, great idea! I appreciate the break on length of training session. Because I knew I only had to do 20 mins I got an itty bitty brick in last night. Road for 20 and ran for 22.

Thanks buddy!

Seems a little rigid to stick only with s/b/r since this is the time of year when many people (particularly us northern folks) are cross training and taking a break from the s/b/r routine. I would even go so far as to say that we should encourage alternative workouts (maybe even extra points). Cross training is a great way to prevent overtraining and should be a part of any good training cycle.

I need some advise from you that have went long. I have a problem of getting hurt when I start getting the longs runs up there. What is the least amount of mileage I can get by on for a HIM, and when the time comes next year for IMFL, for an IM? I seem to remember I think it was Bobby that said he never did anything over 5 miles for a half since he was injury prone also. I plan to do a fair amount of walking in the race so I'm prepared for that.

David what were your long runs like before your race? I know you had some issues as well with running and building up the mileage.

Any advise is welcomed.

I think with a 10 minute minimum for run/swim and 20 for bike, overtraining is not going to be a problem. I would run 10 minutes just to get a liquor store to buy beer!

This challenge is just to kick start some of us who have become lazy and out of sync. This is by no means the training bible. I play hockey, lacrosse, take bootcamps, row, lift weights.

In the end we have a bit of fun, some friendly banter and hopefully get out of the winter doldrums.

Cheers!!
