well, uh...I just got here, so don't leave on my account

TT has become very frustrating, and I'm not sure how it switched over, but it seems to be following the trend of triathlon in general, in that there are less and less newbies year over year and the people that stick around are getting testier. Not sure when that happened exactly. Sometimes you get drawn into the BS, but that's something I'd be proud of if I were you. For the few people that are logging in as newcomers, denying them your contribution isn't fair to them. I've benefitted from it, for one. Don't let the actions of a few trolls ruin the experience for the people that have so much to gain from your experience. I try to keep my comments there as Pollyanna as possible, while still being helpful. If I get personal, it's unintentional. Not to say I'm a milquetoast, but it's definitely a concerted effort. Best luck making a decision there.

Today is moving day in my household. Got a nice easy run in first.

I will hopefully post some pics of the new ManCave set up next weekend, but it's not set up yet, AND I will be in Georgia the next 3 days. Will start with 2 trainer rides this weekend. I have sufferfest, Veloreality, and Racemate options to chose from. Pretty excited!

I'm ordering a new wetsuit soon. Zoo of course. Trying to figure out sizing, anyone have any tips? In general I know they should be really tight. I'm 5'11, 160lbs, 38" chest. Looks like Small-Tall, but if anyone has any help, lemme know.

Lastly, I am at a bit of a crossroads with the site right now. I don't log here anymore. Clearly I have some issues with certain trolling individuals in TT. I am truly debating whether it is worth it to stay. I love this group, I do, but am actually on the fence about a total account delete as I seem not to be able to be drawn into the BS. Like most things, *I* (or *we*) are usually at the root of the problem, but have to maintain sanity and all. I've actually been dialoging with Ron. Don't know the answer?

4 days to MANCAVE!

Good luck with the move.

I have no words of advice on the wetsuit.

The forum, well Its a gaggle of people with opinions. You GOT to see it that way. Good and bad. Really shouldn't let it get to you. To be honest I wish I knew who these people are....
certain trolling individuals in TT
That might give me perspective because I let a LOT of stuff roll.

Some sound words here Fred.

although I had to look up the context of milquetoast.

Welcome Dave.  You're one of the good guys in TT.

I helped escort the elite wheelchair racers at the Honolulu Marathon yesterday.  Last year when I helped the escort, the top 4 were all split up within the first half mile.  This year it was cool as the top 2 guys were together for the first 8 miles and each of them made a hard move to drop the other guy...until one move stuck.

I got some of my angst out on the bike. Haha.

Ditto on the match!  Big day (even the second time around, for sure).  Hope you land where you want!

Do they do the whole auditorium and white envelopes for the second go, or is there less pageantry?

As for burning off energy - intervals!

Awesome!  Must have been very cool to watch that play out.

Does an escort stay with each, or just the front runner?

Howdy Dave - welcome aboard! Just please God, tell me you are not Canadian? There is only so much room we have in the group for complaining about the cold.

speaking of which, Arend I hope you are on the upswing?

Motivated by Salty, Ben, and James - I took a little jaunt up one of our local "mountains" on Sunday after riding for a couple of hours. A few million years ago it used to be a mountain that was approximately 7 miles high, but now all that remains is a granite and Quartz dome (remnants of a magma uplift) that is 1000 feet high and features a 1 mile long trail to the top. It was tough - not sure how I would have made several miles of that kind of climbing like you all are talking about. Managed the one mile ascent in 14 minutes, so that is sort of running. My first race of the year in January is a 18k road race that climbs 2200'. I looked back In my logs and the last time I did this race was in 1997, and I finished in 1:32:29. I am hoping I can at least beat that time.

And this evening I had a little base-effort spin on the trainer just to dust off the legs, so for fun I decided to try out Kinomap with the kickr. I found about a 20 mile ride/video of a local route I ride all the time, and was pleasantly surprised at how accurate and "true to life" the power and translated pace seemed to be.

What Rusty really means is "I hope you are not fast AND Canadian".

Canada is the current SBR Utopia world cup champion. Canada has held the title for 2 years (we just avoided racing the 2nd year).

I suspect we will be called to defend pretty soon, but that's OK. It looks like team Canada is healthy (minus Arend's cold)

Plus, we now have a team doctor.

Thanks! No, not Canadian, although I was born on Rochester NY, which almost counts. Live in rural CT now. And I slept at a Holiday inn last night. Cold don't bother me, I just can't run in it, my lungs can't hack it. No worries, I'm one of the rare birds that has no issues with multi hour treadmill runs and trainer rides. I do wish I could swim in open water year round though. Oh well.

Hey lemme stoke the juice pot a bit, for those of you who've done it, what did you find was the most important thing going from half to full distance? I'm a bike specialist with many a century under me, that's not my major concern (although it's all about the bike is sage advice, and for all the reasons I know). My thoughts lately have been volume, keeping pace in check, and nutrition. Psychologically I'm training my head to go in loops on movies, songs, verse, etc. seems to work well on long sessions, but I'm more concerned about the mind going batty than I am the legs at this point. Overall, not hella worried about it, seem to have figured out the half without any major damage, this just feels like the next step. Thanks gang.

Kinomap is something Fred should keep an eye on. There is a "Kinobottle" coming out soon. It's the shape of a bottle and goes in your bottle holder. The Computrainer plugs into it rather than into the PC. It then talks wireless to Kinomap.

I'm committed to IMMD as of now - the logistics make it very easy for me, with my old man living about 20 minutes away. The particular topography is well suited for me, at the larger end of the spectrum build-wise (5'11", 180lbs, 10% bf) . The bike puts me ahead of the game, and the flat run will minimize the damage I can do to myself on the marathon.

I can't really comment on the half -> full jump as I did it the other way around.

Your swim is good, is it not?  Don't underestimate how much a long swim can take out of you and start your day off in a hole that's tough to climb out of.  Biggest issue for me training for IM was staying injury free and allowing me to run enough.  I was somewhat foolish and choose a plan that specifically said it was designed for someone who was an experienced runner (pretty much the opposite of what I was).  I winged a lot of things and was lucky to more or less get away with it.  Lots and lots of nutrition preparation/experimentation is a good idea.

For the record, I think the only one that has complained about the cold so far this year has been the one living in Texas.

Starting to feel a bit better but only marginally.  Trying to be smart and laying off any sort of training at all.  I was tempted to get on trainer this morning and just spin while Tab was doing her workout but decided that drinking coffee was more appealing.
