#9 on the list - 401w for 36+ mins.  Sounds...... unpleasant.

Seems similar to Kaloko Drive.  If so, my best advice is to be in decent shape, and not be fat.  I failed on both those key points...LOL.

WANT!!!  With the amount of trainer riding I do, and apparently the corrosive sweat I have, I am constantly ruining cables and cable insertion points.  Sounds like an upgrade I need

Well you *could* make that singular in that the back brake is debatable in necessity.

And Marc would technically be correct.

Wishing I could figure out how to get out there for that. Found out the trail race I did this morning went into a Gibraltar Park for the biggest hill. Certainly not nearly what the California version is, but still does 300 ft in about 3/4 of a mile. A couple spots had HR going high up into Z4 and pace was 13:xx. It was awesome.

Anyone on facebook saw this already, but this is how my morning ride ended today.   Going 27+ when it happened so happy to have brought it to an injury free end.   I survived, but the rim, sadly, will not

at the CX race a few weeks ago, one of the guys had a brake lock up in the engaged position so he could barely pedal.  Solution?  Who needs brakes - release the cable!  Not sure if it was the front or rear.

Chris, my mind is still blown at how much of a perfect storm that had to be for it to end up like that.

I picked up a DeSoto ITU tri suit on clearance this weekend ($30 something) -- looking forward to trying it out on some of my non-wetsuit races next year.  Marc, what was the verdict on this tri suit for your swim speed?  I can't remember what all you tested it against, but I'm pretty sure you said it was faster than just jammers....obviously slower than a wetsuit.

I retested the DeSoto and for me it's 3-4sec/100m. I also tried the HUUB and it was about the same
Nice part of the HUUB is you can wear your regular kit under. The DeSoto feels tight but I did ride with it for 3hrs and it was ok.
Nice part of the DeSoto is it's as fast and no need to remove it, which is mandatory in ITU races.

For HIM or longer I would use my HUUB so I could use my regular top and shorts for cycling/running
For Oly I would use the DeSoto.

Will Galveston be wetsuit ?

Galveston will be wetsuit legal -- it's in the Gulf (though in a fairly protected bay) and early in the year, so it'll probably be high-60's.  Hell, even IMTX was wetsuit legal this year and it's in a shallow lake in late May!

I'd use the one piece only for Oly or shorter, which is what the local non-wetsuit events will be around here.  For a non-wetsuit HIM, I'd have to just invest in a swim skin.  I haven't learned the art of peeing on the bike or while running....two pieces are necessary

Glad for the update on this, as I'm looking at suits.  Thanks!

And hello all.

Been crazy busy with the new job (and all the fall kids' activities in the new town) and barely managing (barely) adequate workouts.  Worst part is NO time for keeping up here!  I find that I really miss it, but figure once things calm down I'll be back (I know - you're all anxious for my return...).

So, with this "proof of life post," I'll just say that I'm still lurking and will start to hopefully contribute (such as I'm able) again soon.

My thanks to all of you, as I can "hear" your posts from over the last couple years while I'm doing what I can these days.  They are both motivating and a help with approaching the whole tri thing from a good place (I find that I think of myself now as a triathlete rather than someone who races triathlons:  a VERY interesting transition - especially for one who used to enjoy the racing WAY more than anything else - and one that I have actually enjoyed).

Matt

Marc, what are your thoughts on the newer cycling tops, designed for racing only. Like Casteli, etc?

Pricey, I know, but apparently big speed gains?

I have no idea. I have not really looked at them.
I think, but not 100% sure that Jordan tested in the tunnel and there is some stuff on ST about it. I would trust his views.
I don't remember him wearing one for Tremblant. I am pretty sure he was in a 1 piece.
I think there are challenges in non wetsuit swims since you can wear it properly on the swim.

Pure craziness...

Took a minute to figure out what I was looking at.
