I need to find an indoor track this winter Originally posted by Fred D Originally posted by Asalzwed
I imagine that goes for the other two disciplines as well. I'm not sure (as much). Running in a group can be great if all the same or similar speed, however, for me, I have caused injuries to myself by trying to 'keep up' with faster runners. On the bike, riding in the group has definite benefits, but it is a totally different kind of riding. We were pushing 600+ watts at various intervals on today's ride... that isn't necessarily ideal ironman training. I do think a once a week group ride is of great benefit to most triathletes. I tend to run alone... I guess maybe I am assuming a certain level of discipline but there has been nothing better for me than running in a group. It would be pretty silly to just go out with a random group and hope you all have the same pace and goals. Of course I am pretty lucky and we have, essentially, pace groups that are separated by VDOT.
Exactly. It just has to be executed properly. I think a lot of people think "speedwork" or time on the track means running all out for any given interval. I've NEVER run all out in one of our workouts. It's all put together thoughtfully. Also, there is an expectation that you have the other workouts and mileage to support some "speed" and that it is proportionate. A HUGE part of our group are masters runners/triathletes, and very successful ones at that. Running together keeps everyone accountable. Accountable to finishing the workout when maybe you wouldn't want to and accountable to the pace. No one is trying to "win" the workout. Another big benefit I see is learning to run in a pack. Learning how to tuck in behind people, learning how to pass successfully, learning how to communicate. It's a huge benefit to know how to work together during a race, no matter the distance. |

Subject: RE: SBR Utopia ~~~~ Permanently OPEN!! Originally posted by Fred D Originally posted by brigby1 Is there any more info on the team? I see a Facebook page, but can't seem to find more info like the older Zoot Ultra web page. I should say, that my Team Zoot 2015 stuff should be on the "Down Low" for now, as they haven't made formal announcements. I'm told that I'm in, but that the Team will be formally announced in November. There will be a general application coming, which you will likely see on ST. If you are interested, PM me and I can let you know. Hah! Another year, another rejection letter..... Congrats on getting in again, well deserved! |

Subject: RE: SBR Utopia ~~~~ Permanently OPEN!! Been sort of bumping along, trying to manage this foot and still do the mary. Did a 15K trail run last weekend and I needed more, so I added 6 more miles for a total of 15 miles with 1400 elevation. Foot gets a little sore, but holds up and rebounds pretty quickly. The mary has a total of 2300-2400 foot elevation. I was pretty happy to come in 6/45 in the race, although (obviously) not a stellar field (they, like fastyellow, were all running the 30K). And got 3d AG. But that was 3/3! Havent had any real interest in swimming or the odd weekend bike here and there. Hard to keep weight down this way, especially as work's been uber stressful. Been on BT less in general as my iphone has gone back to the mobile format for some reason, which is unreadable so I just don't even come on here much |

Does anyone here know if you can run a computrainer thru a Mac? Yes. Golden Cheetah will control it. I am pretty sure I have tried it, I can try if that is an option I think ErgVideo works with the windows emulation stuff. |

So, based on how data is interpreted in recent threads in TT, I take this analysis to mean that 1/2 the field wouldn't have made it to Kona if they weren't riding with a PM... |

That's true...the bike shops around here don't carry many power meters in stock. Certainly not SRM, P2M, or Stages. They can order you those of course, but Garmin is the one power meter I actually see on display a lot as most shops do sell other Garmin products like the 510/810/920/620 etc. I'm hoping that we do start to see the $500 power meter that measures total power soon. |

Champion 6656 | Subject: RE: SBR Utopia ~~~~ Permanently OPEN!! I'm tired. Did a workout before and then ended up going to the Y for a run and mini swim/hot tub after my interview. Exercise to knock myself out from over analyzing my responses. Looks like I'll be training hard to distract myself for the next 6 weeks before match day! Wooo. Selecting out workout gear to bring was difficult with the season right now. Carting around my runners tied to my bag because they don't fit in it! Haha. #classytriathlete Off to Edmonton now....YEGGGGG. |
